Never heard of "Fort" cutters but I have an IMA and I had never heard of that brand before last year. Some folks here have posted to stay away from the Italian mowers but so far it's done pretty good for me. Looks rugged and is as heavy as a Kuhn but a few pounds shy of a Land Pride.
You adjust the cutting height by lenghtening or shortening the top link on your tractor. That tilts the mower down or up when it's in the cutting position. Don't adjust it so close that you're cutting dirt unless you want to change blades about every three rounds or trip the breakaway every time you hit a fireant mound. You probably don't have fire ants in Va. Besides, you wouldn't want to cut the grass that close anyway.
