It depends on your location and type of tags.If you have control problems you might have to use backrubbers or spray the cows.you need to talk to your county agent or vet on which type of tags to use<p>

We have <br>heavy fly populations now!<p>I plan on spraying with a pump up sprayer, possibly<br>use a backrubber now and use a tag in July! <p>Very good advice about your county agent or a large<br>animal vet in your area! These folks should <br>understand the problems that your area has and <br>which products work well and how to use them!

Most tags claim to be effective for at least 5 months. Our experience is that we are doing good if it lasts for 4 months. Here in east central KS the flies are usually the worst from the first of June to early Sept. We tag ours the first of May. By the end of summer we spray them or use rubs if it becomes necessary.
