Here is the last update about Hurricane Rita that I will be posting. Rita hit just east of the Texas border in Cameron, Louisiana, and caused massive devastation to a huge area, from just east of Houston all the way to mid to eastern Louisiana. Initial reports are saying that Beaumont was hit the worst, but too early to tell, lots of places got hit extremely hard.

Here in Houston, we got lots of strong winds, stronger than I feel comfortable in. When the winds are loud enough that you cant sleep, thats a little too strong. There has been a little damage in Houston, but most stayed to the east of us and in Galveston. Now the big problem in Houston is the gas shortage. Nobody has any gas. We probably have thousands of stations throughout Houston, and maybe 10 of them have gas. We have over 2.5 million people here that evacuated, and have a long drive back here only to find no gas. Gas tankers have to have police escorts coming into the city. Many stations are not open today when the gas is delivered, so no one is around to turn the pumps on when the gas is delivered.

We dodged a huge bullet here in Houston, but unfortunately east of here wasnt so lucky. Everyone who was in Rita's path has my prayers tonight, and as long as your recovery takes.

Tex, why dont you see if you can help Caustic and Campground dig out from underneath all that rubble? I'd help out if i was nearer. bet they can teach a thing or too and not even mean to. just a thought.

I would love to help out in any way I can. I have no gas to go anywhere. I talked to the guy at the gas station today. He said he has an order in, but it could be almost a week before it comes in, and with demand so high right now it could only last a few hours.

Well, looks to me like you got your 'excitement'. Not quite so 'bored' now, are you?

Ill be walking or dusting off the old bicycle for a little while. Animals are up north, so someone is taking care of them for me, dont have to drive out 2 times a day to take care of them, and that was pretty much all I did every day anyways. School is canceled until Wednesday, so now all thats left is sitting around until then. If there is no gas by then, Ill walk to school. Not gonna hurt me any to walk a little bit.

msscamp - Yeah, I got the excitement I wanted, but yes, now I am bored with nothing to do. I wish there was no suffering of others from this storm though.
