Does fescue cause calves to keep there winter coats longer?
I sold some calves yesterday and took a pretty good deduction because the calves hadnt "slicked off". These calves are grazing fescue and clover fields.
The cattlemen around me say that worming the calves and changing mineral will cure this problem. The calves look very good except for the hair. I have wormed them and the mineral they recommended will be here today. I guess my questions are does fescue effect hair and does wormer effect hair?

Getting a top quality bio available mineral seems to help my neighbors.
Also preconditioning the calves and taking them off fescue completely will get the hair to shed out in about 60 days.

As far as wormer...... the animals are challanged by the toxocity so anything that you do to take another stress off is going to show a positive result. If there is no stress there--- it won't do anything to help.
