So I just got a phone call from the wife who is RN and apparently some of her nurse friends and Dr. asked her did she need to work more hours. She said umm.. no I work enough then she asked they why they asked her that one girl told her well we thought you were in a hardship and your husbands business and farm was not doing well and maybe you wanted to work more hours. She asked where did that come from she said the girl said well you drive a ford truck to work or a ford explorer and we are all driving lexus mercedes acuras porche etc. My wife said to them yall have really lost your mind and told me we are doing excellent and we dont believe in " Status " cars such as those and its a waste of money to buy them she said if she wanted one she could have one but for what ???? she said the dr's and nurses looked at her like she had 5 heads on her shoulder. That really bothered her that they think we are struggling so I told her log on to the bank website and show the checking and savings acct if that will make you feel better that they know you arent struggling. I didn't know peoples success was measured by what car you drive. I guess i need to get on public assistance cause I drive an old truck with scratches and dents daily. People truly amaze me on a daily basis. I guess tonight I will go buy a mercedes suv just to prove a point.... NOT

All of my vehicles are paid for. They are 6 and 7 year old vehicles and that is fine with me. I'll drive em' until the wheels fall off before I will buy another. My son bought his first car, a used but like new SAAB convertible, I co-signed the small loan (he had a 60% cash down payment) with the stipulation that he pays extra every month toward the principle. I do not want him, or me, saddled with a car payment. His first payment he doubled and the second he paid 900.00 extra. At the rate he is paying on it he will have it paid off in 6 months. I want him to learn that a car payment is not a blessing. The blessings begin when the payments end. I have friends that have to buy a new F250 Super Duty diesel or a Dodge dually every two years because they want the latest and greatest status symbol for pulling their horse trailer to the show or riding trails. When I go I pull up in a 1994 Chevy truck with my 2nd hand trailer................and my horse rides just as far, just as smooth and just as easy as their high dollar TWH's with a pedigree as long as my arm..........and I don't have to rush back to the 80 hour work week just to pay for it either

I have never been enamored with fancy transportation. What I wish I had is a two ton truck with a dozer ripper attached to the front by an I-beam so when people come over rises and around curves on my side of the road, I could open them up like a can of sardines. I drive 18 miles every day on very windy roads to my farm. I have worked and traveled in 47 of the 50 states and no where have I encountered so many bad drivers than between my house and farm. I ask a KY State Trooper about the situation. He said there are so many redneck drug dealers in the hills near your farm that the people you are meeting are either in a hurry to get their drugs or on their way back and don't even know their driving. My wonderful brother always worries about me getting hurt because of the risks I take with my cattle. I tell him the odds are if I get hurt or killed it will be because of the drug traffic on the way to and from my farm.

What does he have a Ph D in? My son is suppose to be only a few months away from earning his Ph D at Vanderbilt in Molecular Biology. They own you 24/7 while you are working on that degree. I doubt if it is worth it. I will be so relieved when he is finished. He is working on how cancer cells make the proteins than build the tumor. The people who do that stuff are not human. I have never pushed him. In fact, I have told him to do what buys him the most peace for the least cost.

I read an article in Business Weekly not long ago and it started off:
“Debt is dumb, cash is king and the paid-off home mortgage has taken the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice.”

That is from Dave Ramsey, radio host and author of The Total Money Makeover, and it is the battle cry of a growing movement away from debt.

I've never listened to Dave Ramsey or read his books, but I can understand what he means.
One of THE problems with America today, is that far too many people (especially young people) don't really try to accumulate any real wealth or assets--they only care about having the "appearance of wealth". Along with that appearance, almost always comes a buttload of debt and a lifetime of fiscal obligation. Most of us and our parents/grandparents were happy enough to scrimp, save and wait for what we have, but somewhere along the way, that slow walk down the patient path got lost.

There's a huge difference between education, intelligence, and.......common sense.

Not just him, I think it could be about 85% if the country.

Personally I just dont understand why people want to appear rich to show off for others you come to my house its a 2200 sq ft 4bdrm regular house gravel driveway 3/4 acre yard of course thats not all the land I have but people would look at me driving my 1994 ranger daily and say hes struggling to make ends meet which is fine with me i dont care what people think. My grandfather lived just like me and people that didnt know him thought he was probably homeless and extremely poor but in fact it was the exact opposite. Society has turned into a D... measuring contest but the only real winners are the people selling these expensive vehicles and making them ,banks for making money off of the fools. IMO

When I bought a new truck on 04 and retired my 93 with 650k on it. Everyone said you must be doing pretty well and for a couple of years that was the perception and when the truck was 8 yrs old 250k on it people thought I was struggling. Now that I bought a new USED truck people make comments all the time it must be nice to have all that money. If I didn't have a job that required me to look somewhat professional and have a decent vehicle people would think I didn't have 2 nickels to rub together when in reality I can rub 2 quarters together. I like nice things and spend money on thing that makes my life comfortable but don't give a damnn what someone else does or perceives.
