I have a bull I can't wait to get calves from. He is 20 months old. I have ran into a little issue with him. He spots on coming heats well and walks with the cows until they stand. The issue is he continuously tries to mount their head. I have watched him with two different cows for over an hour. He never goes to the rear. One was standing late one night and I observed him"head mounting". The next morning I went out early and he was still with cow and still "head mounting." I just went a head and ai'ed her. I have some bull calves that hop up on cow's rear and try to breed the cow and he will knock them off then go back to the cows front and attempt to mount her. Anyone experience this? Any suggestions?

No, I have never had a bull (that old) do that. But at that rate, I don't think you will see any calves! Hope he gets it figured out!

I would preg check the cows and see if he has stuck any after your breeding season is over. We had a young bull last year turned in with a handful of cows and he did the same thing. I hope your results are better than ours as he's hamburger now and our breeding season is all screwed up.

I think he is too old as well to be doing that. I am putting in a new bull next week.

Maybe he's a "head" man................

Seriously, he may be attacking the other end when you are not looking.

Maybe he needs a little cow porn video. The kind with the black tape over the cows eyes so they can;t be recognized.

He needs cow porn so he knows which end to go at. There's nothing quite so frustrating as watching a bull like that try and get the job done... Kinda like hiring a carpenter to do mechanic's work!

I have seen virgin bulls do that. Our Feb bull did that with the first few cows we sampled him on, and they all passed over their cycles. I used to get frustrated watching him, but learned to walk away and let him do his thing. Once he hits the mark a few times, he will get it. At least ours did!

You may be proud of your Bull, Kris, but my bull didn't have any trouble figuring out which end of a cigar to light. :D

I hope he gets out of it soon. I want some of his calves on ground next year. He don't know it but he only has one or two more shots and he will get put to pasture with bred cows.

Ours didn't have any trouble with the "which end" part, but it seemed to take him a while to really know what to do... the first few cows never had their tail out after he bred them, but they didn't come back into heat either
