Number a bull can breed

We are planning on selling a 5 year old bull soon. Have 15 month old bull out with cows with around 12-15 to breed at most, older bull has probably bred some of the earlier calving ones of those.
Young bull will be pulled out in July. Will he be capable of breeding 10-12 more sometime in late November starting around Thanksgiving for fall calving?

Yes. Probably could in August, in fact.

After 14 months i figure 1 cow per month of age on a young bull.

From my experience that is very light duty for a young bull. The way I see it, probably 70 percent or more cows settle on the first breeding. So the bull works hard for three weeks... and then he has much less to do in subsequent estrus cycles.

I had a situation one year where I had to use an 18 month old bull on 40ish cows, and he settled them all and they all calved in a two month window. That would have been a good year if there hadn't been a declared national weather disaster and I lost a bunch of young calves.

I've used other young bulls on 20/25 cows as standard procedure and had good success.

I figure a young guy of early college age could probably handle a harem for three months and maybe need a few extra naps to catch up... so why not a bull?

I have used bulls younger than that to breed that many and it worked out just fine.

Well it doesn't look like it's going to matter for this spring breeding anyways.
After the rounds of fighting with the black bull. Our bull won the fights but he didn't come out of it unscathed. He had a little bit of a limp and I reckon as the adrenaline ore off it's gotten worse.
Good thing we hadn't already sold the old bull he will be going out and taking back over while the young bull rests and recuperates,

Yes he can ! Only problem he might have if 3-4 bulled on the same day . Might not have enough bullets to go around. Lol
