The Question: DO YOU LIKE GETTING OLDER???

I can hit the golf ball any way I can and laugh if it goes in the lake. That's the breaks. I'm just happy I can still hit that golf ball.

As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world, too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it, if I choose to read, or play, on the computer, until 4 AM, or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50, 60 & 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love, I will.

I will walk the beach, in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves, with abandon, if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And, I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years, my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break, when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But, broken hearts are what give us strength, and understanding, and compassion. A heart never broken, is pristine, and sterile, and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.

So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).

And when my time has come to leave this life don't have a funeral for me. I don't want anybody to miss the chance to see one ballgame, play one round of golf, take one ride in the pasture or spend time with the family to attend my memorial service.

:) i want to be roasted and then dropped in the ocean of Hollywood Beach,Fl out of an old shoe box... thats it.. and then everyone can go to Nicks and have dinner and drinks on me :)

That was very insightful TB. I was expecting it to be about awful people feel with age.

The only exercise I get is walking behind the coffins of my friends who exercised. - that Lawrence of Arabia actor (somebody help me, I've forgotten his name)

Me too but I know who you're talking about.

I am 45, and so far, I agree. I don't mind aging at all. I am also not one to pretend to be younger than i am or to say I'm a "young" 45. I'm not an old 45 either, I'm just 45. I've noticed there is a little respect that comes with being older as well. I work where there are a lot of people in their 20s and 30s, and they don't give me any slack at all.

I can kinda remember when I was 45. Last century I think. :D

Last century for sure for me. Only reason I hate the thought of getting older and leaving this great earth is I want to be able to enjoys my grandkids. All their accomplishments and all their hard lessons in life. Lots of oldies on this forum, but from what I can tell, it will be in great hands when we leave.

You fit any or all of the above?

The only frustrating thing about getting older, (for me) is not quite being as flexible and strong as I once was. My joints squeak and grind a bit now! Mentally, I do have a calmer more excepting attitude about myself and life. All the things that TB described!
But 29 isn't VERY old, is it! :D ;-)

Getting older was fun for awhile. As a teenager I looked at teenage girls only. In my twenties I looked at teenage to mid twenty year old girls. In my early thirties I looked at twenty all the way up to mid thirties. I really enjoyed the broadening horizon...It started to suck about two years ago when I'd see twenty year old girls and think "I wonder if her dad knows she dresses like that." or, "She'd be such a beautiful young lady and make a wife for some lucky guy if she'd just have enough self respect to cover herself a little better." :bang:

"You don't stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing."
― George Bernard Shaw

I notice the older I get the more careful I become. No longer do I feel like an undiscovered Superman.

I have had a good run no complaints as an uncle of mine used to say son I know heaven is my home, I just aint homesick yet.
If it wasn't for a bad back I would be rippin and running still get it done at a much more leisurely pace. I do everything I want and have the means to do it now.
Getting old aint bad you don't pay near as many stupid taxes.
