There is a irrigation ditch that flows right behind my house. It waters probably 30 acres or so on my property. Down stream it irrigates a total of 800-900 acres. It has been years since it was last cleaned out. So an excavator is going down the ditch cleaning out rock big and small right now.

Who pays for that Dave?

All of us who use water out of the ditch.Whatever the total bill comes to divided up by the number of irrigated acres you have. It is going to be around $7-$10 per acre. My bill will run $200-$300. It is still pretty cheap water. Teh guys over in the Treasure Valley pay $60 an acre every year. Central Oregon (Madras) the water is $75 an acre. And those places have ditch riders who tell you when and how much water you are allowed. We have 8 people on this ditch and it is all the water you need but talk to and get along with your neighbor.
