Dispute over bull leads to violence

Help Support CattleToday:

That guy gives all cattle breeders a bad name. Hope NO Angus breeders buy from him.
Killing the other guy is just plain wrong no matter what had happened.
From what I read "Deadly Force" was not needed in this case and the guy who did the killing should be in jail period.
Now suing the widow is just plain petty. He should be ashamed of himself.

Unless someone points a gun at me would I even consider using deadly force.

Just out of curiosity how far apart were they standing when the shooting took place?

SAD....... I KNOW THINGS CAN GET OUT OF HAND. 2 YEARS AGO MY NEIGHBOR'S BULL GOT IN MY PASTURE LIKE HE ALWAYS DID, BUT THIS TIME HE NEVER MADE IT HOME. MY SALER BULL KILLED HIM. THEY WERE ABOUT THE SAME SIZE BIG......... HIS BULL WAS DEAD IN MY PASTURE BUT HE WANTED ME TO BUY HIM A NEW BULL....... [WRONG] . I JUST WALKED AWAY. BUT I DIDN'T BUY HIM A NEW BULL. HE SOLD ALL HIS COWS AND TOLD EVERYONE IT WAS MY FAULT. I TO BUILD FENCES TO KEEP EVERYONE'S COWS OUT. POOR OLE GUY. MARTY

This case is a shame. Attorney Ames shot an unarmed man. He was able to beat the conviction in court. Our courts need to be looked at. Possibly Ames plans to win again, get a judgment and lien Brooks property. Mrs. Brooks is an old lady, not able to pay. I think attorney Ames wants her land and may get it. There is nothing honorable going on here. Just my thoughts :cboy:

Are we talking stick or a club? I don't think I would shoot someone just because he hit me with a stick. Now if he took after me with a pi$$ elm club, I would probably think about shooting if I had a gun with me.

Yes, I think I have to see what the stick looked like. Since they were chasing BULLS I suspect "stick" means something like a hoe handle (what I would be carrying) or axe handle. If that is similar to what the 37 year old hit the "old" man with, a well placed shot could crack a skull. Since the guy with the stick had a 20 year advantage AND a weapon, then the "old" (comparatively) man was justified in shooting the younger, armed man.

Brandonm 22, I must have missed something. I believe the old man [Brooks] was shot several times by the younger man[ Ames] Am I correct ? :cboy:

Is that ames fella still in the cattle business? I cannot see how anyone would buy from him after all that crap.

He allegedly had a dispersion last year but I heard it did not go well and this past fall he had bulls in the central test.

He still has black cattle in his pastures.

Never yet met anyone who dealt with him who didn't call him a S O B.

Seems it went fairly well

THIS IS A DIFFERENT FARM. THIS IS A LONG TERM AND HIGHLY RESPECTED BREEDER IN A DIFFERENT PART OF THE STATE.

Baxter78, I believe you are correct. I wonder if this was brought in to the Murder trial as motive ? I still can't see the reason for the shooting, It was sooo wrong JMO :cboy:

TNMaster Beef Producer, I agree. I guess if you know the law and have enough money you can buy most anything. I can see Ames buying his land and wanting new fences, that was his choice. To insist your neighbors pay for what you want, I don't agree with. I am the new guy in my neighborhood and wanted new fences around my property as I don't like chasing livestock. I didn't ask my neighbors for a penny. One old fella saw me building fence and came over to introduce himself. He came back the next day and gave me a used gate. :cboy:

Kerley...same here. Just finished fencing the place we bought next door to us. About 2 weeks latter, neighbor decided to go ahead and put a fence around his since one side was already up. lolol. Don't have a clue why. All he has is an old dog that never leaves the back yard. Guess having 1/4 of the fence for free enticed him.

Or he thought you were trying to be unfriendly or trying to keep to yourself so he followed suit.

Maybe so.. :) But only built the fence so I could put cattle in the place...He's the one that keeps his front gate locked.

GMN, Actually, The neighbor is an older fella like me. We get along very well. Any time he sees me outside he goes to the gate we installed in the new fence that separates our properties. Thats when we catch up on current events. Like him, I don't know much about whats going on in our community, all is good. :cboy:
