If you have a tank heater the inlet needs to be below the lowest point of the coolant supply a couple of inches. Normally the drain in the block is used but there are other sources on different tractor engines. So hose down to the inlet.

The outlet end of the hose needs to go in a point where the flow stays in a rise. Meaning you can't take the hose(flow) up to say the water manifold like on D239 engine by going over the top of the engine and come back down to a port. The flow needs to stay moving upward going back in the engine. It can be a pain on some engines to do this. My old 574 IH I used about 7 ft. of heater hose to go up to the water manifold. The closest way was about 3 ft. but had to keep the flow going up and route the hose between the engine and steering to keep it at a constant rise.
