Time to clean house for the year again.
Sad to see this old girl go. Going on 16 years, her dam, full sister and herself are the base for over 25 cows in the herd. But she is down to to 2 teats and her June calf beside her in the picture is not even 1/2 the calf that she normally brings in. She averaged 1380 lbs with another cow and sold for $1.13/lb. Calf was singled out and weighed 335 lbs @ $2.80/lb.
Cow that has had a growth on one of her eyes off and on the last year. Not taking a chance on her getting full blown cancer eye. Her calf didn't weigh up well this year either - down well over 100 lbs compared to previous years. Averaged 1625 lbs @ $1.14/lb. Her calf beside her averaged 367 @ $3.05/lb.
Open heifer, lost calf in spring and didn't get bred back. 1375 lbs @ $1.21/lb
Open cow. Really like this cow and she does a great job, but open is open and time for the cash register to ring. Weighed 1800 lbs @ $1.18/lb.
Bought this cow as a premium bred heifer in 2004, for $800. Those were the BSE dark years. She has made me fistfuls of money. Real good cow, but open and 11 years old. Averaged 1625 lbs @ $1.14
Daughter of the cow above. Lost a set of twins this spring, was bred back, but lost two quarters to mastitis in the process, so off she went. 1610lbs @$1.12/lb.
Cows at the yard.
Some calves I hauled in for neighbour. 3 smaller herfs were 534 @$2.45/lb. and 2 bigger herfs were 625 lbs @ $2.25/lb.
Another fellows very green yearlings. Never saw them sell. But he bought a good bull this year off the 1800 lb cow above, so hoping the quality goes way up for him.
Neighbor's calves off of a bull I sold him. Never saw them sell, but liked what I saw in the pen.
My calves. 9 steers @ 483 lb average @ $2.93/lb., 4 steers @ 367 lbs @ $3.05/lb., 1 steer @ 515 lbs @ $2.82/lb, 1 steer @ 335 lbs @ $2.80/lb. and 1 heifer @ 420 lbs @ $2.50/lb.
