I was wondering if soy beans or soy bean meal would be good for feeding weened calves? What other foods are good for weaned calves? What are the most important elements of a calf's diet? Thank you.
Soybean meal is a good suppliment. It has roughly 45% protien and 78% tdn.
You want to shoot for 12-14% total protien and 60-68% tdn for your calves. 60% to just grow them and 68% to push them a bit.
They also need roughage like hay or grass to have their digestion work properly. A good diet would be grass hay with a couple pounds of grain (corn or oats) with a half pound or maybe even a full pound of soy meal mixed in.
