I was mowing some pretty heavy weeds today. I was going real slow and the hog would get bogged down. I would stop and let it catch up. After about 15 minutes smoke started coming out of the u joint that connects to the gear box and it quit cutting. I immediately shut it down and went to the house. I looked and couldn't see anything that look out of place or wrong. There was a lot of grass there that I cleaned out. Was it the grass smoking or could it be something else

See page 5-13 of the manual for adjustment of the slip clutch. Don't over tighten or it may never slip to protect the gearbox and drive system. Slip clutches should also be kept dry so that they don't rust together and then they don't slip.

Good point. It's actually a good idea to loosen the slip clutch once a year or so and bump the pto enough for it to slip then tighten it back up.
