Not likely but there are always exceptions- out of millions of doses given some are bound to not work.

Did you suspect one that died have blackleg??

Depending on which vaccine you used it can also be one of the others strains of clostridium diseases, clostridium septicum has very similar post mortem symptoms and many vaccines don't carry the septicum strain. Have the dead animal analysed so you can be sure which strain caused it so you can make the neccesary changes to to health program.

You may ask how do I know this... unfortunately from experience.

id say yes a yearling can get blackleg an die from it.even though it was vacc for blackleg.the reason i say that is because ive had grown cows get blackleg an die.an had to vacc the whole cow herd for blackleg.

Thanks for the info. The vet just left from checking her out and it was not blackleg. I guess that is a positive outcome to an already negative day. Thanks.
