there was a thread on FB, my son sent me a screen capture. it said he was in hospice but I think it got edited. either way this is sad news. he has been living nearby for a number of years. he did a fundraiser for a ranching group I was involved with a long time ago. will always remember that.

We're devastated to hear that Baxter Black is retiring, for health reasons. We'll be sharing some of our favorite columns over the next few weeks, and would love to hear about your favorite column, poem or memory. Baxter's wife, Cindy Lou, said they would welcome good wishes emailed to [email protected].

Got an email from a friend that BB is now in hospice care; sad to hear it.

I saw him at KSU around 1982 when I was there for the student AVMA convention.
As the v.p. of the student AVMA chapter at Auburn, I managed to book him in to speak to the student body a year or so later, and at an 'after party', that night, drank beer and picked guitar with him way into the wee hours... he was a good'un, and will be sorely missed when he passes.
But... I'd say he's had a pretty good run!

That is so sad to hear. I've enjoyed his narratives for years. Wish I could have heard him in person.

Jose' and The Hoodoo Cow is still one of his best but his explanation of Wabi Sabi ('There is Beauty in Imperfection') is hard to beat and is so accurate. .

NewAgTalk had a post this morning that clarified the situation a little. Mr Black's son-n-law saying Baxter was retiring for health reasons and was receiving twice/week visits from a home health provider but was not in 'end of life hospice care'.
