Back in the day, we had to use the Cap-Chur tranq. dart gun a lot... way too many of our clients had nothing in the way of facilities.
I hated that thing. You could never count on reproducible results - you could shoot two 1000 lb cows with the same dose of xylazine(Rompun)... one might be down and out for the day within 5 minutes, the other one *might* slow down enough in 20-30 minutes that you could try to slip up on her from behind and drop a rope on her - then she was up and ready to fight/run again.
I killed more than one with it... but if they'd had a pen or chute... it wouldn't have had to happen.
