I was just watching MSNBC News and they were talking about vehicles coming onto the used car market that were flood damaged by the hurricanes. It sounds like bad news to me. They gave out a website called http:/www.carmax.com and you could find the complete history of any car for a $25.00 fee. If anybody is looking to buy a used car, this sounds like money well spent.

Good Luck
Dick

Not to step on your toes Dick, but another site address is:http://www.carfax.com they have the complete vehicle history available.

Just a side question but how do those companies know about your car. Once I buy a new car it never goes back to the dealership.

I think the data on CarFax is mostly collected from insurance companies, to provide info if the vehicle had ever been 'Totaled". The rest of the info I would imagine is bought from the Automakers, to track service or warantee records. You have a great point. If you never have an insurance claim, or go back to the dealer for service they would not know a thing.

Carfax is not in every state so is not the "complete" vehicle history they advertise. Insurance companies have sold settlement cars for years. And the buyers of these vehicles will move them to another area for sale. Can you say "car auction" palace.
