(Looking for a "Sleep All Night" A.I. proven calving ease bull)
Going to have 50 head to calve out and I live 3 hours from the farm so live calves is the most important piece.
Everyone knows you have to give up something going with a calving ease deluxe bull.
Appears Summit may be your best compromise, after all his epd $W is about as good as it gets, top 5% at $85
ce 15 bw -1.0 and .91 accuracy

Interesting on summit. I used Game Day one season and had toes pointing every direction but forward on better than half of his progeny by weaning time. nice chunky calves - made some great low input feeder calves - but the feet thing made me swear off those genetics forever for anything for retaining. That said, I'm sure folks have used him with great success.

Special Focus might be another one for you to think about.

I do know that one won't work. I am hell bent on there never being any mytty in focus blood on our place.

Now Jake you're throwing up obstacles you haven't mentioned before.

I apologize. I said ten x in the original post but should have just said in focus. I have never seen a bull that can ruin feet legs and udders as quick as that bull I have never understood why he was so popular.

Jake how many them bulls did you pick up? Sounds like another strong sale. These are numbers I read.
Bulls avg $16,246
Females $18,652
Gross $11,441,500

Grabbed three Hesston sons. 314,336,337. Bulls got reasonable towards the end. Females were ridiculous.

Summit sires wedge shaped females that have more chest width than about 90 percent of calving ease sires. I really believe from a fertility standpoint he will improve just about any herd. The reason I say that is his dam and grandma are both pathfinders in a herd that runs large contemp groups in an unpampered manner. My oldest Game Day daughters are calving as five year olds and they are bred every fall. Easily the best fertility of any AI sire I have used. On the foot issue I would say Summit is above breed average for feet from what I have seen. Will know more as they get older.

Schiefelbein Effective
http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php? ... 40&lang=EN

Growth, moderate mature frame with milk in the mid 20's. Granted neither are at .9 of accuracy
Schiefelbein Effective is getting very close to .9 he's at 85% bw acc.
He has been a very popular A.I. sync bull among those selling bred heifers here in Minnesota the past couple of years.
Although I can't say I've ever seen any calves. But I've heard they really like his calving ease.
However his ww and yw epd numbers have fallen at least 10% since he was first released.

Jake
You may want to check availability on Platnium.
I used him last year, like the calves, some thickness to em, didn't think he was available, so didn't mention him.

I may have a source so I guess I will keep it a secret for now.

This one is not sleep easy kind of bull but I've been told the BW are coming in smaller than expected and I just really want to try him.

Seems they always do when using a higher than average bw sire on heifers... it's human nature to expect the worst, so even if
it's just an ounce lighter, always feeling of relief bcs you know it could have been worse.

He's a +2.0 on birth. I remember the days when we bred heifers to +3.0 angus bulls and didn't bat an eye. I don't know that I will actually try him on heifers but I will use him on some cows for sure.

One more note. Summit's daughters maintain a 103 nursing ratio on over 100 daughters in 26 herds I believe. And more impressive is the fact that nearly half of his eligible daughters made pathfinder on their first year of eligibility. He will see more use here. No I am not a Select Sires rep. and only wish I owned an interest in the bull.
