Ammo

crazy im going to our local bass pro I will see what there shelves look like. I did a inventory check on ammunition I have left so I can see if some things i need are there I will buy it.

I am beginng to think the ammo companies quit making ammo because their scared of the government. 22 long rifle is easy to make once the tooling is set up. If everybody is sold out you would think the ammo factories would be working 24-7 till they get caught up. If I was making ammo and I heard all this anti gun stuff, I would feel maybe we will be next. And the get it while you can mentality would set in. In my simple mind I think the ammo companies have slowed down or stopped making ammo.

I think they have as well till they figure out whats going on or its a way to jack up prices. I try to keep 100 centerfire rifle rounds for each of my rifles and 2000 for .22 and have got caught with my pants down. I truly never thought id have a problem getting ammo. I think after this clears up and ammo is available I will try to keep 1000 rounds for my centerfires/shotguns and maybe 10,000 22lr and .17

That's not enough.

I don't see this blowing over. Skyhightree, gun owners need to make a stand if they want to keep all of their guns. I don't know the answer, but we need to march before they pass anymore gun laws. If we wait till they pass some gun laws we will be criminals and it's to late. I can't believe the NRA or some other pro gun groups haven't come up with a plan. I plan on standing my ground and fighting for my rights, but I really don't want to go that far if it can be helped.

I have been buying and hoarding at every opportunity. Our walmart here gets a few boxes of various ammo in on Mondays. I try to go at lunch and buy 9mm, .40 and .45 every week. Getting .223 is almost impossible so I have been buying bullets, powder and primers. I have plenty brass. I bought some .223 bullets and another pound of powder today. The gun store was PACKED! But they had several pallets of 9mm, 40 and 45 set out along with .308 and 7.62 x 39. I saw a girl with a 3" stack of the yellow federal paperwork on the counter all filled out just today. I have no idea how many hundreds of guns they sold today (gun store is owned by Barrett Firearms). They are running their own trucks from the gun manufacturers and distributers to the store as well as back and forth to magazine manufacturers. They said it has been non-stop sales for weeks now.

That's what I am talking about. Barrett Firearms is making hay while the sun is shinning. Buying guns and bullets is helping our cause, and if everyone would join a pro gun group it would only be better.

Amen on not enough.
Again you need to be able to reload at least 45 ACP and 12 gauge IMO.
I have lot's of primers and powder stockpile along with the bullet's.
One pound on Unique will load approx 1400 45 acp and aprox 300 12 gauge.
I do have the molds for double aught and 45.

Academy started limiting to 1 box of ammo per person . 3 total boxes in 3 calibers . Kinda makes it bad when u live 40 miles from the nearest academy . Luckily I've been buying ammo for the last 2 years . I have a 5 gallon bucket of 22lr . Among other stuff .

Look at some of the prices on Gunbroker for 22 LR ammo. The bucklet of bullets that Remington has was selling for less than $70 are going for more than double that.

I got a call today from a guy saying a small store near here had some 22 shells. They are not known as a gun store so nobody had thought to ask there. I bought 2000+ rounds for last summers price.

Was at a gun show earlier in the day and there was ammo there but it was all pretty high. 100 CCI 22 was 13.50 and they were selling.

i went to bass pro today and another local store thats just as big hardly any bullets but i did get 6 boxes of .17 hmr hornady vmax... There was a ton of people buying guns and I was just in awe its crazy i even looked for reloading supplies the only reloading supples there were was for reloading shotguns. I now guess from what everyone is saying need a good 1000 rounds per handgun and 500 per centerfire rifle and maybe 5000 per rimfire does that sound about right ? I also saw at the local stores my .300 mag bullets were 74.00 a box so i think my 100 i already have will have to do for that gun. BTW i still didnt get any .22's

I have enough to do me for a long time but I only buy when I find a good deal or get extra ammo in a trade. Got over 800 rounds of 223 last week in a trade.
Oh, and I did buy a Kel Tec 32 auto today. Figured if times get real hard I will send it to you.

Thanks Kenny lol there is a ton of that at all the stores. I think I got enough for a while too but not if i target shoot alot. I noticed at the store there were alot of women buying guns that never even fired one I guess they want to get it before it takes an act of congress to get one.. Does anyone have a concealed weapons permit ? I have one and wonder how all this gun crap there trying to pass will affect that.

Was at a gunshow in Gonzales today (Sat.). A lot of people there and business was brisk.
One exhibitor said people were just throwing money at guns.
They had some ARs. About a week before that shooting I was looking at a Colt AR in a Wal Mart for a little over a $1,000. Now what I see run $2500 up.

Some people that from their looks I would never dream would be interested in gun stuff were buying .223 magazines like they were hotcakes.

Had some .22 ammo but I don't know the price.
Last week I bought some .45 auto and 12gauge tactical buckshot. If I were to buy very much I would have to go take out a bank loan. That stuff is expensive.

Went by Cabalas and they had a limit on the amount of ammo you could buy. Shelf space for some of the most popular calibers was bare. What came in that morning was quickly sold.

I don't trust myself to reload but after this bs i may have to start

It is simple with a good press just follow the recipe.
Really lower's your cost if you like to shoot . My average reload cost on a box of 45 ACP or 44 Mag is about 7 bucks.

Reloading is like ranching... it looks good if you don't factor in your time. ;-)

You are right about that.
That is why the Good Lord made cold dreary days in jan/feb for us to have something to do besides cabin fever.
