Alfalfa Hay?

How many pounds of alfalfa hay would a cow nursing a one month old calf need per day? The cows average 1200-1300 pounds and are 5-7 body condition scores. The hay has 17% protein but I forgot to ask about the TDN.

you can feed them 10lbs a hd a day.that should produce more than enough milk for the calf.an maintain the cow.17% hay is top beef cow hay.almost dairy quaity hay.

I'd mix grass hay in with that, that would give my cows serious runs, but others have more experience than me, I only feed when I have something penned up for some reason.
