Just wondering what the process is to draw semen from a bull. Do you use a vet or a semen company? Does anyone on here have semen drawn from their bulls and do you market it? If so how and what is the process that you use?

If we have a bull we feel is good enough to collect we take him to lookout mountain genetics in Ft Payne Alabama. http://lookoutmountaingenetics.com/ They do a good job and will store the semen for you as well.

here in Virginia most folks use North American Breeders.

We don't sell semen on our bulls but from time to time we will collect a herd sire to store after we're done using him so we can go back and use him again later if we want. We're fortunate enough to live about 20 minutes away from Hawkeye Breeders: http://hawkeyebreeders.com/ which is where we get ours collected and store all our semen when it is not breeding season. I realize they are not anywhere close to where you live MRR but I would guess there are places like them all around the country that can provide collection and storage services.

One suggestion: AFTER you get the bull collected, have some straws thawed and tested. Let's just say a fertile bull may not have semen that freeze and thaw well. We had a REALLY bad experience one year with one of our bulls. Make sure they thaw and test.
