a few bulls to judge

Help Support CattleToday:

A good set of bulls. I hate to judge by videos. But 10,14 and 44 could all roam our pastures.

Thanks elk

We had a customer call wanting pictures of the Bulls we have been talking about doing the videos for a couple of years. The boss set up our video pen a couple months ago. I don't think we did bad for our first attempt. We are far from a professional videographer but it gives the customer a better idea of the bull than they can get with a photo. We did learn we need a third person to make it go a bit smoother. Now for class 2:

I just watched a couple videos but the bulls looked really good. I think the videos will only help your marketing efforts, great work.

Nice looking bulls. You'll find that videos are really helpful in your marketing, some guys just don't have the time or live too far away to make a stop in person so having videos helps get some of those guys interested in coming to see them in person before pulling the trigger on a purchase. A good first attempt at video, a 3rd person definitely helps too. Not a professional at it either myself but just a suggestion next time you shoot video is try to get more of the bulls walking down the fence line on a straight path so you can see them walk more in stride and not turning circles like you did in the C14 video. This is where a 3rd person really helps out because you can start him on 1 end and have another person at the other end to stop or turn him around. We typically have 1 person that starts them on 1 end of the lot and another at the other end while I'm usually standing in the middle and once the bull passes me I start to move behind him so I can get a view from the rear.

Good luck with your sales!

Really good looking bulls. I liked 44 the best, but honestly, I'd be proud to own any of them.

Thanks all for the comments. Good point SPH we already told Jacob (our son) that we would want him to help next try. We also plan to move the panels to make the pen a little longer. I think that will help a longer run down the fence. The C14 was the last bull we videoed and I think the boss was about wore out by that point. We had worked all the mature cows at the farm before coming home to get the videos, so he was tired when we started this project. The good news is we palpated all of the cows called open on 3/1 and they were all safe. We palpated the 2 and 3 year old cows called open on 3/2 today and had 6 still open. We pulled the bull today so will recheck the 6 with a blood test in May when we start the first round of shots on the calves. We feel most of these will be bred once we recheck. We will recheck heifers next week, hopefully we won't have many opens in that pen. This ole girl is tired tonight, we were all glad to see the last cow come through the chute today.
