Never understood why there so many children in the building. It was a federal building right? Does the federal government provide daycare for their employees? Just wondering.

I believe they did. The kids were in a day care there- I'm 99% certain of that from all the news stories in the past. Only made sense to me that it was provided by the government.

Hard to believe it has been 20 years ago. I have stood at the fence around that building not long after the bombing. There were still cars in the parking garage across the road from it that was there when the blast happened. There were so many flowers and cards still at the fence. I have made it part of my goal in my career to get the specialized training needed to respond to such events as that. I pray I never have to use it. Such a tragedy. Thanks for listing each one that died there.

I always wondered why the Fortier (spelling?) guy, didn't get the death penalty.

Was there a few days afterward. I was still in high school then. It was a humbling walk we took downtown. The destruction was beyond what any pictures can show. Will never forget the amount of glass on the street for blocks around. I hope they rest in peace.

Not sure about daycare but they automatically qualify for this. I think the FBI guy in the hot tub drinking champagne admiring the Vegas skyline was participating in this.

FBI Recreation Association
All Bureau employees automatically belong to the FBI Recreation Association (FBIRA) free of charge for as long as they work for the FBI. FBIRA stores stock 'official' FBI merchandise and are found at both FBI Headquarters and in FBI field offices. The FBIRA also secures discount admission prices for local attractions and events. Many FBIRA chapters organize Bureau community events such as summer picnics and holiday parties, and they also sponsor recreational fun such as division golf tournaments, softball teams, and running events.

Bigfoot the jury deadlocked on the death penalty sentence. No idea why though.

Didn't Fortier turn state's evidence and get a plea bargain deal ..... as if they needed help in this case. He's been out for some time I believe. I think he was also given a hefty fine.

One thing is for sure the federal government learned they couldn't go around shooting innocent women and children and not be held accountable for their actions. I think the feds ended up paying the guy at Ruby Ridge several million for killing his family. Might be why they recently backed down on the Bundy Ranch as well.

It's sad to think like this but, something dramatic is the only way change is coming. Our voices will never be heard any other way. They can out vote us, but they can't out gun us yet. And if they ever get our guns, our freedom is gone right along with them.

An interview with the mother of the baby the fireman was carrying said that every time she sees this she is overcome with emotion that is hard to bear. Why not stop the showing of that image to give her the relief from these emotions. Just imagine what you would feel if it had been your child.

I agree...if you know the hurt and heardache it is going to bring why keep showing it.

In this context of the loss of their lives on that day, does it matter?

x10. Actually, times a billion. Wow. I've been startled by a few things said on CT before, but I am gobsmacked here.

(But just because it's been raised, I just looked it up and the daycare centers in federal buildings are privately run. The parents (some federal and some private employees) pay for daycare. Lower income federal employees may receive a subsidy, depending on the agency and location etc, to help with child care costs. Or, I guess, instead of lower-income workers getting a little help with child care, we could just have the parents quit work and go on the dole). Baylee Almon, pictured, turned 1 the day before. Her mother worked 10 blocks away (and was presumably not a government employee).

Sheesh. Look back at that picture (if you can; I can't) and tell me this is remotely the time and place to debate exactly who paid what fractions for daycare for those children killed.

Boondocks there is no need to blow this out of proportion I only asked a simple question because I am not familiar with federal buildings having private businesses in them so it struck me odd so many children were killed. Since nearly a quarter century has passed since the bombing I thought it safe to ask a simple question.

Jo, I had no problem with your question wondering why so many children were killed. (Babies, really. 14 of them 3 or under, and a 5 yo, all murdered in cold blood by a lunatic). Once you got the answer--that there was a daycare center in the building--you proceeded to question who paid for the dead babies' daycare (the implicit, but clear, subtext being that it was taxpayers, and that you found that objectionable). Is that really the lens through which you read the list of the dead in this thread, and viewed the picture of little broken Baylee Almon? Money and taxes?

Children are born innocent. How much we mourn their loss and rail against their cold blooded murderer surely does not depend on whether their daycare costs were subsidized by you or me.

You are right, I was wondering if it was a daycare run by the federal government similar to the bit 60 Minutes ran on the special perks federal employees enjoy some years ago. It would have fit the time line. And yes, I do find it objectionable for federal employees to be treated differently than the citizens.

Children died in the Koresh incident. For no reason. Locals said over and over they could have taken him. Easily. Government wanted to wage war. Children were the victims. Innocent. Suffered because of their parents religious beliefs. No court. No jury.
