Could I keep a group of calves in a two wire electric fence in about a 100 acre pasture? I have never done any fencing with electric fence only barbed wire. Just wanting to know what you guys/gals think. Suggestions?
Hey do any of you know if a person can do some sort of test or something to tell if a heifer is a freemartin? Or do you just have to wait and see if she gets bred or not.
Just wondering what kind of bull to use on a herd of 9 heinz 57 cows on 50 acres? Their is 6 angus influenced cows and 3 hereford influenced. We currently have a chiangus bull that is getting pretty old and I just don't think he is the right fit. Current weaning weights range from 450-500 lbs...
I'm sorry, but I have to correct you. There is no such thing as a buzzard in North America. They are Black Vultures. I'm kinda weird, thats one of my pet peeves.
I recently bought just some crossbred cows from a man in Granbury for $600. They all were bred and they all have had their calves. I just looked around in the classified ads in the livestock section and I found several good deals. This was an old man that was getting out of the business and he...
Around my parts, when calves get past that 600# range they take a dive down in price per lb. Just depends on what your'e doing with em whether your feeding them or they're just grazing. Just do what you can afford.
Can someone tell me how a solid black cow, breed unknown, and a chiangus bull can throw out a black white face calf. Just trying to figure out how this stuff works. I would just like to know how yall think happened.
I had a cow with the same problem although mine wasn't skinny. She acted fine but kept on getting a runny nose. I asked my vet and he said it was just allergies from all the tall grass so I just left her alone. She still kickin out in the pasture like a normal healthy cow.
We recently weaned a heifer calf where she was just on grass. Now that shes been weaned she has developed a big belly on her. My question is what are the effects of this at a salebarn and is this a normal thing to happen?
I read in some recent posts that if you wean calves before they go to the sale barn, you can get a better price. My question is how do the buyers know that the calves have already been weaned. At our local sale barn you just take the cattle in there and unload. They don't ask questions. Should I...
