Haven't been on here in a while, just wanted to update on my heifer. She calved today and did great, no problem at all. She had a tiny heifer sire by my hereford bull.

    Train cattle to gunfire

I was wondering if I have to or if any of you train your cattle to close gunfire. I have shot snakes on far corners of my place or while baling(I assume the baler drowned out the sound). But haven't shot real close to them. Obviously if I see a coyote/dog chasing or stalking my cattle I'd shoot...

    Couple pics of my calves

Thanks for the compliments. As much as I love black whitefaced calves, I can't wait to get some dark cherry red calves with white markings. That momma cow turns 8 this year and has been one of my best cows. She may be far from perfect, but she does a perfect job caring for her calves. So far...

    Couple pics of my calves

I don't know what it is about baldys/motley face calves, but I love seeing em. Sure glad I went back with a herford bull. Thought I'd share a few pics. 2 week old calf with momma. 2 bull calves roughly a week apart The last of my limousin cross calve pics were taken last year they are in my...

    New bull!

Got my first calf from my new bull, a healthy bull calf. This is him about a month ago. grew a lot since I got him, mostly height. The bull has very light pigment around his eyes, I didn't think I would get that panda/goggle eyed calves. I guess it doesn't take much pigment.

    Distillers spent grain

My neighbor asked me if I wanted to buy some, I am interested but had a few questions. I would be buying by 250 gallon tote and wanted to know how to store it and how long before it goes bad? Also any real health issues with feeding it? Is 4.60 a cwt a good price? Any comments or experiences are...

    Opinions on culling

You are correct on age. And the reason on buying more cows was to replace the the those skinnys. But then I realized I could replace the braford types and have all black cows so the cross might be better. The cows I'm buying are brangus cows 5 yrs old due to calf between February/march. The are...

    Opinions on culling

Took this pic today, this is what she usually looks like. Right now I have them on free choice hay, and have them in the field which is very short bermuda and winter grass. The rest of the cows look pretty good.

    Opinions on culling

This is the best she has ever looked, she is on her second calf In this pic. Her sister is identical to her. Thier two heifer calves I have sold weighed over 600 in 7 months. Their calving interval is 10month 23 days . They are on their third calve now and the are growing fast.

    Opinions on culling

Thanks bigbull, that's what I was thinking. Only reason I asked is cause the neighbor said he would rather keep the hard doers that he knows will cross better.
