How did you get into Ranching

Took a leap of Faith, prayed on it, asked for it, cashed out the wife's and mine 401Ks, 403Bs, Roth IRAs, and paid cash for 114 acres with House, Barn, water, electric, Fenced and Cross Fenced. If I had it to over again, I would do it just the same. Best move we ever made. Added 42 more acres...

    F1 cows

If you make the trade those calves will be 1/2 Bhraman, 1/4 Hereford, 1/4 Angus. I think these will do very nicely in Texas. I have 5 of these that I will be retaining this year. Three with Red Angus background and two with Black Angus Background. All out of F-1 Tigerstripe Mommas and Camp...

Appears to be some Bhraman influence in those cows.

    What would you do?

Other than Stockers, you could consider buying very heavy bred cows. My thought is that if they calve out quickly and wean their calves in 205 days this should fit into your 6 to 8 month window. During this time have the cows bred and sell them as such when you sell the calves. Just a thought. TRM

    totally new

I would be very hesitant to start this venture with a heavy debt load. I do think its possible to operate at a profit, but not easy. I do it as a recreational pastime, on a small scale. Its fun....but it do cost money! Best of luck, and remember you can ask all the questions you like on this...

    EPDs

Considering a Bull, but do not know the slightest thing about these ratings. Here are some numbers from this Registered Angus Bull BW+6 WW+43 Milk+25 YW+74. I run F-1 Tigerstripe Cows and am still looking for a Black Bull. Do these numbers look good or not. This would strictly be a Commercial...

What is the best small tractor for a small farm?

I bought a 05 JD 990 Diesel 4 X 4 39HP 35 PTO....its too small. I should have bought a larger HP Tractor. I would suggest through consideration on your part, as to what you anticipate this piece of equipment being used for in the future, and purchase accordingly. TRM
