    fly bites

Thanks guys! Sky I used the fly blocks from tsc last year and was not really impressed the rub seems the only thing that works decent. I am going to find the purina fly stuff as its the best money can buy . And most of the time you get What you pay for. Was also looking at the bayer fly tags ...

    fly bites

I have a 4 year old jersey cow that is covered in fly bites today .I had a rub up for them but took it down last week to work on the fence and forgot to put it back up. My rub is nothing more than astring with rags tied to it . I used permethrin mixed with motor oil as my insecticide. The cows...

    Grass Tetany - Lucky/TexasBred

Inyati, not to hijack your post but I have a 3 year old hereford cow that every time I feed this herd she eats a little feed and goes straight to the brown salt block that I have for them and will probably lick this thing for 15 minutes. I also have hi mag mineral that is free choice, they don't...

    vacination protocals ?

Branguscowgirl, I noticed you give them selinium twice, my question is this I give a hi mag mineral that has selinium in it. Is there a test to see how much is present in the cow? The area where I live has very poor soil and that would be useful to know. And are they getting enough from the...

    vacination protocals ?

I know this has kinda been beat to death but I would like to know everyone's vaccination protocol for all ages of cattle (young calves, yearling heifers and mature cows) . I have talked to a Guy down the road and he does no vaccinations at all and he looses a couple of calves a year (mostly to...

    my cow is lonely

I might run one in the chute tomorrow and maybe try a dry run at it,I've got an open cow that I plan on aing anyway and she's pretty calm so I try not to stress her. I do have a question about how far into her is the cervix in her on a typical 3 year old? I know its kinda stupid question but the...

    my cow is lonely

Inyati, when I weaned the calves I did bring in a couple of hereford cows and she seems to be doing alot better. I did notice that when the calves were here she was my shadow and followed me around like a puppy dog so I could tell she wanted some kind of companion. Its been a learning...

    my cow is lonely

Regolith, I weaned the calves on Saturday and she is not leaking any milk yet I did milk her some Sunday to relieve some pressure. Do I still need to put that stuff in her (tomorrow I think its called) . Do I need to empty her out before I put it in?

    my cow is lonely

I know it kinda stupid question but im kinda getting worried about her. I know cattle are herd animals and I keep the calves in the lot and feed twice a day. The reason I got her was for a nurse cow and she's done an excellent job so far. The reason I ask was I was planning on putting another...

    my cow is lonely

My Jersey cow seems to be lonely after I took the heifers to my spring pasture. She just walks the fence bawling and is not eating near as much as she was. My options are to bring a heifer back so she will have a buddy or I had thought about drying her up and taking her over there too. My...

    keeping weight on nurse cow

Chippie, The cow is salebarn bought so I have no idea how long she has been milking, my AI tech said he guessed her at 4 years old so I hope to get several more years out of her. The calves are kept separate about 9 weeks old now I do plan on weaning them in about a week as they are eating hay...
