    Feeding heifers

branguscowgirl. there is absolutely nothing wrong with having medicated feed. this feed isn't really even a medication. its just bovatec which is basically just a feed to help with feed conversion and gain.

    Some Sort of Infection....

The cattle with the temp of 102.3 was perfectly normal even in the dead of winter. i dont treat unless they are over 103. unless of course they are acting funny but in the summer its not at all uncommon for cattle ( espcially black hided) to run 103 with the heat and all so id say those calves...

Fire Sweep - Check Mycoplasma bovis

we have only had one calf with mycoplasma and we tried EVERYTHING. the only thing that worked was the 5 day treatment with baytril along with banamine everyday.

    Baytril

IMO baytril should be used b4 draxxin micotil or those antibiotics. draxxin and those are a lot hotter antibiotics than baytril. 75% of the time baytril don't even work for us we have to use draxxin or something similar. are vet suggest trying baytril or nuflor to start with and then use the...

    Sick calves

well if draxxin an nuflor don't help the only other 1 I would try would be baytril but if draxxin doesn't help then I doubt baytril will. also keep them on the banamine for 5 days. 1 cc per 100lbs. given every day for five days. the babamine is a great drug since it helps reduce fever, coughing...

    Weird issue when bottle feeding

slscores. we bottle feed about 50 Holstein calves a year and the first thing that comes to my mind is he is getting the milk to fast. the nipple on the bottle should not be big but u don't want it to small either. if that doesn't help then I would check his temp an see if he is feeling OK. if...

My first Pinkeye in 3 years?

yes fire sweep its expensive but worth it an it also last 2 weeks. but if u use baytril at $102 for 100 ml an then u have 5 ml per 100 pounds its $5.10 for 100 pounds of treatment. also baytril only lasts 5 days.

    healed castration pictures please

we had a calf one time that we tried to band when he was a couple days old and we couldn't get it to come down so we had to wait till he was a 500 weight before we could band him.

    Heifer Limping on front left....

nuflor should help but I would use draxxin because it is not as much antibiotic to inject

    calf down

OK we lifted him up today an both of his front legs were bent back at the pastern or fetlock can't remember which one but it looks like they might even be swollen.

    Sick calves

I would talk to my vet and maybe even have him post a dead one. have you took the temperature of the calves when they were sick and if so what was it? does one of their ears droop when they are sick?? I doubt its mycoplasma but we had one with mycoplasma and he had one droopy ear and a temp that...

    healed castration pictures please

around here it hardly makes any difference whether they are knife cut or banded. a lot of us here band them so we don't have to worry about the blood and the flys. with the cattle prices so high some of the bull calves bring just as much if not more than the steers

    calf down

calf has been on 3#s of 14% calf creep and free choice grassy alfalfa. his condition is fair he has been a little bit more framy calf than usual but he has been that way since we bought him from the dairy as a bottle calf. he trys to get up but he just can't get very far I don't know if it is...

    calf down

howdy we have a calf that went down the other day he weighs about 325. an is a Holstein. called the vet an he thought we should treat with penicillin an a wormer so that's what I have been doing. the calf seems perfectly fine other than he can't stand up he eats like a horse an is perky an all...
  18. R

    wormer?

was wondering what wormer you guys would recommend for some feeder calves. would you use a injectable or an oral or what????
