Cow with badly swollen legs ?

I had a vet examine her and he had no real diagnosis. He gave her shots of Dexamethasene and Lasix. I doctored her 2 more times with the same shots I got from him. Also wormed her and gave shot of Multimin and LA300. One of those rare things things that happen to cattle sometimes I suppose.

Update on cow. She got to the point of not being able to stand a few days after my last post and I had to put her down. Swelling around her eyes at the end. Thanks for the previous replies.

Cow with badly swollen legs ?

Thanks for the reply. She is home raised on my place. Has had all her vaccines. Vet seemed to think a blood test would not help. I am going to try to talk to the Vet again tomorrow to see if he has any more suggestions. Like I said, she has never been in real good condition since I got her...

Cow with badly swollen legs ?

This is a 5 yr old cow I raised. Last year she was cripple on her front foot. Foot was swollen and got better after LA300 shot, stopped her limping. This winter I noticed 3 of her legs were swelling and she started limping. I had a vet examine her, and didn't really find anything, checked her...

    Chance she will survive?

I pulled a cow out of a gully once and she had a broken back leg. I never knew if it broke when I pulled her out or if she broke it trying to cross the gully. I had to put her down. I wouldn't give much hope for your cow making it, especially if she was old.

What Was The Use Of This?

Down here they called them dipping vats. They had to dip all the cattle to kill the ticks spreading tick fever.

    bull broke his stinger.

Your best bet is probably to load him up and take him to the sale. If you're not sure, have a vet give you his opinion on his chances of recovery. A vet told me that putting him in a chute and running water from a hose on the hurt area for a few minutes a day can help.

Drench for baby calves - Home remedy style

This is from a paper I saved from 1992. I have never used this recipe. Two Colorado State University vets have developed a treatment for calf scours that uses ingredients found in most kitchens. The formula supplies all the immediate nutrient and electrollyte needs of the diarrheic calf. The...
