Making the best black baldy cattle

I have a bunch of black baldy Cattle and I love them. My all come from purebred hereford and Angus genetics. Used purebred angus cows and bred them to Hereford bulls. The baldy cattle have a much better docility than the angus and also bred back quicker and easier. They are great mamas and have...

WHAT SIRES ARE USING FOR AI SPRING 16

MNcowboy, Chisum is one of the Bulls we ordered this fall as well. I like the looks of him and hopefully he works out well. MidTN, The bull below is less than $20 and a good buy IMO. http://bullbarn.com/angblkepd.asp?ID=1701 KW

    Gert Heifers

I just bought a herd of Gert cows and there are about 12 heifers that need to be sold after weaning. They are all purebred and many of the cows had papers on them. I can easily send them to the market in November but wanted to reach out to everyone here and see if anyone knew of someone looking...

    Best Hereford Bull

I'm going to AI some of my registered Angus cows to a Hereford bull in hopes of getting some good F1 cross cows. What Hereford bull in your opinion is the best on the market today? Looking for a bull that will sire females with good udders, feet, and phenotype. I don't want to give up alot on...

    Gert Cross

The black baldie heifers you got out of the cows is exactly what I want my herd to look like in 10-15 years and a big reason I'll most likely use a Hereford bull instead of a Charolais. KW

    Gert Cross

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I've just about made up my mind that I will use a Hereford bull. Any thoughts on whether I should use a horned or polled bull? The advantage to using a homozygous polled is that I wouldn't have to de-horn any calves. KW

Thanks for all the replies. I've got a couple months before I'll need a bull so it gives me some time to decide. I appreciate all your comments. KW

I've recently bought a herd of pure bred Santa Gertrudis cows and am looking for suggestions on what breed of bull to turn in with them. Being located in middle TN the less ear you have the better and of course black is king. DMF has recommended a Charolais bull and I'm sure that cross would...

Fence Chargers, Here we go again

I use SpeedRite solar chargers and really like them. Only had to replace one and a semi truck that came through the fence took it out not lightning. The local co op here keeps them in stock with plenty of parts as well. KW

Show your bull(s) - Put a pic up

Here is the yearling bull I bought a month or two ago. He is about 13 months old. By CC&7 and out of Traveler cow. He is a really nice balanced bull and will be used to clean up my registered cows and liver cover all the commercial cattle.

Cow Pollinator, Thank you for the explanation. It's nice to disagree with people on this site and for the conversation to stay pleasant. I'm only in my second year raising registered cattle so I have much to learn and I really appreciate the advice and opinions given. Can you explain why you...

    RB Tour of Duty 177

Cow Pollinator, Can you please explain to me why you think he is a one hit wonder? I can understand the argument about his accuracies being low because he has either not had many calves bred to him or there have been few people who have tuned in data on calves that were sired by him but I don't...

    RB Tour of Duty 177

Gizmom, Thanks for pointing out the EN value as I had not noticed that yet. I'm not looking to use this bull on heifers so CED and BW are not as important to me as growth. The cows I'm looking to breed him to are smaller frame cows with poor growth numbers. Both of these cows stay fat as mud...

    RB Tour of Duty 177

I'm putting him in my tank. He will certainly help the calves numbers out of some of my lower end cows that produce well but don't don't look the best on paper. I wonder if him not being owned by a semen company is one reason he is not getting the press that others are. He was also bred by a...

    RB Tour of Duty 177

Anyone used this bull? His numbers are through the roof and he certainly passes the eye test. His accuracy is low on most however at only 50%. He is a 2011 model. KW

    Building A Herd From Scratch

I started out about 2 years ago and now have both registered and commercial cattle. The registered are merely a hobby right now but I really enjoy the genetic side of things. The commercial cattle are in a business plan and hopefully will continue to make a little money along the way. I choose...
