I have had great luck with hereford/angus mothers on angus bulls.

I have a small herd of 35 cows. I currently have angus bulls on them. I dont want to get something I cannot get locally or within 100 ish miles. The bulll selection is limited here to angus, charloias, beef masters and brangus. At least getting a selection from.

novatech- i agree on your point. i try to buy less popular cows - herefords, horned cows etc. I then try to put a black bull on them and i get black cows that do well at the market. i also try to choose smaller framed cows and stay away for anything 1200 lbs or bigger. Just does not make sense...

i am going off topic on the thread however after reading a few studies by big universities the most profitable producers put the least into their cattle and have mixed commerical cattle. around here black calves, bladies and charloias is what sells best. from what i have seen is low cost input...

its not the week old calf its the concept. using a mutt bull that is built well vs a pure bull on mix cattle.

does it make any sense to have smaller cows to get more productivity out of land. ex - 900-1000 lb cows. seems like u could run more cattle on the same land than 1500 lb cows.

newbie question- why does it matter if she looks bullie? I have a heifer just like her and i actually like the extra muscle etc. what does the bullie look do to her calfing ability? thanks
