    Got Docked at the Barn

Sounds like he is grasping for excuses. My Gelb calves and Gelb crosses that I have taken to sales have all topped the sale here in TN. I don't know why there would be that much difference between here and where you are at.

He is sold and gone but not too far away. Might be able to get some pics if I happen to drive up that way.

His momma cow has produced some very big weaning calves no matter what bull she was bred to. This calf was moderate at birth. My records show a 78 lb birth weight. Her offspring seems to moderate out pretty well. The other bull that I sold out of her 3 years ago weighs about 1,800 now.

Thanks everybody. I think he looks pretty good myself. He was basically a photo of opportunity. I was going by on my four wheeler and snapped the pic. Working 60+ hrs per week lately doesn't leave much time for posing. Sorry DOC  I'm learning that great bulls don't always a great calf...

    Critique Time

Ok I haven't thrown one up for critique in awhile. This is a March born calf out of a Balancer bull (CTR Goodnight son). He is a 50% Balancer. His mother is out of In Focus. I don't have EPD's yet so all you have is his looks. He weighed 797 lbs as of Wednesday. No creep just milk and grass. He...

    Cattle of the European Alps

That is possible Andrew. I was at the Hofbrauhaus on Saturday the 13th. My favorite place of my whole trip was Flagenfurt, Austria.

    Cattle of the European Alps

I just returned from the alps last week. I was in Germany and Austria just a few km from the swiss border. I saw a lot of cattle just like that in similar settings. The scenery was beautiful. Everything seemed so peaceful and slow. Nice pictures. It looks like you enjoyed yourself the same as I...

    corriente charolais cross

I agree with Caustic on this. At 450 lbs weaning there is 100+ lbs left on the table and at todays prices that is a lot of money. Multiply that over 10 or so calves per cow and a real beef cow starts looking like a better investment.

    Can't decide on these heifers

Probably best. I have a bred heifer, full sister to the 595 heifer in the pic, that I am selling too. Maybe I'll make him a package deal. He can take both sisters. My luck as it goes......yesterday their momma calved again....yep another heifer. Now I'll have another high headed girl in the...

    Can't decide on these heifers

Here is a shot of the first heifer from the front. She is not as thick as the 2nd heifer but she is not slab-sided either. If I don't sell her now she will probably be A.I.'d this fall and sold bred. Her momma is on the hotter side of the disposition spectrum in comparison to the rest of my...

    Can't decide on these heifers

Both of these heifers are around 10 months old. My original intent was to keep them but I have been made an offer from a customer that is hard to pass up. Both are registered, average EPD profiles. Both are 75% Balancers. Pictures are not the best but I think both calves are pretty good. Sell or...

    Bull critique

I think as cattlemen we should always be striving to improve all the time. Most of us can not afford to go out and plunk down 15k for a bull. We improve our herd one step at a time and over time we develop some pretty nice stock. We all started somewhere with less than stellar cattle. You are...

    Bull critique

I've seen a lot worse for sure. He could use some depth, muscle and hind quarter. Not as masculine as I like to see. Positives: he appears to have good length, straight top line, big scrotal and he is obviously fertile. He should work until you found something better. There are a lot of really...

    Balancer Calves

I think so. Guy is coming from west Tennessee tomorrow. I think he will take him. I have had a ton of interest. Several from out of state. A guy from over in Virginia wants him bad but doesn't want to buy sight unseen so he is trying to free up his schedule to come and look. I have had two...

Anyone have pictures of Charolais gelbvieh cross calves?

Here are some Gelb x Charolais calves out of a car cow and gelb bull. I have had them from black, tan, smokey to white in color. Out of same bull and same cow. You never know for certain.
