    Black Charolais

I agree on some, black hereford has lost it for me, but these bulls look decent IMO, and if they can give me the growth rate and size, its a winner, but your input is what I was wanting, thank you

    Black Charolais

Couple years away, brainstorming what to do with less acreage.

    Black Charolais

I was just asking thoughts as a breed, possibly a niche to get into.. We will probably downsize our place, I was thinking about becoming the 2nd black charolais breeder in Texas, AI only. I know most Charolais guys don't like them, my neighbor called them genetic freaks, but so were polled...

    Black Charolais

Just when reading about the purebred bulls they used in the up breeding program to get the American Charolais. They had to be 31/32 I believe.....

    Black Charolais

Yes, my neighbor is a charolais breeder of 30 years, every once in a while he will have one with horns on his place. He says it's pops up every once in a while

    Black Charolais

Read this article, published 1998, black charolais born naturally. The first documented one goes back to 1993. https://www.producer.com/1998/04/charol ... tle-black/

    Heat stress

My tigerstripes, brangus and longhorn crosses do just fine. They are actually out eating in 100 degree heat. My hereford bull is having a hard time. Had to hose him down yesterday.

    Black Charolais

The breeder I spoke to in Texas would not go under $2,400 a heifer. Sitting on these like black gold.

    Black Charolais

What are your thoughts on black charolais. Spoke to a breeder. Not able to register except in Canada. No angus in them from the breeder I spoke to. Not sure of the actual process but they are supposed to be 100% Charolais. They bred 2 red charolias together and got black one. Then kept going.

Tear him apart but tell me I got my money worth

He is not quite 2 years old and I won't retain any of his heifers. I am pretty much running him on black cows now and that's really what I prefer him on...... but the W-4 ranch is having a sale next month, haven't looked at the catalog yet. All the baldies he produces will be sold. Heifers take...

Tear him apart but tell me I got my money worth

Yeah the name doesn't fit him. He has bred the tigerstripe already in the middle of the Texas heat. He has been a very gentle bull with me and my kids, it's one of the things I likes about him.

Tear him apart but tell me I got my money worth

EPD'S and genetics. Doesn't mean a "whole" lot(with the low Acc) until I start getting his calves, then I will see how the investment pays off. It's better then taking a shot in the dark on a commercial. From what I can tell he is out of the Domino/Perfect Timing bloodline by researching his...

Tear him apart but tell me I got my money worth

From a breeder called "Lee Herefords" here in Tx. He has genetics all the way from Canada and Australia, AI'S and shares interest in some premium bulls. His herd was so perfect, all of his cows had perfect udders and eyes, even the 12 year olds. He knows his stuff and knows a lot of breeders...

Tear him apart but tell me I got my money worth

In the update above the brangus went to the sale, he chased me twice. I should have sold him after the first. All of his offspring will be going to market in the spring.

Tear him apart but tell me I got my money worth

Updating an old post. Got the first 2 calves of the year from that brangus bull. The positives, both were very low birthweight and have plenty of ear. The negative is the steer got his sires hind end, it's too early to see the heifer, and they both came out brown, but hopefully they shed darker...

    Santa gurtrudis cross cattle!!

There is a guy that sells hereford/ Santa Gertrudis cross replacement heifers in the Souther Livestock Standard paper. He runs a full ad. People say they make great replacements here in Tx. I dont think they would bring a penny more at the auction. Never seen a brown hereford cross with ear...

Do you think these are Jersey????

This heifer from the dairy has been bred AI

Do you think these are Jersey????

The local dairy has straight jersey, bred AI, producing 5 gallons a day for $1250. My neighbor got one and has 3 charolais bulls calfs on her. Think the sure bet is the better way to go? Just get her and some orphan calves from the auction? The 2 heifers in the first post would be a little over...

Do you think these are Jersey????

Its craigslist, I have never had one give me that kind of guarantee. These are close to auction price is the only reason I am considering. I cant find any at the sales. For the same price at the dairy for one wet jersey I can get these two, and right now I dont have any bottle calves in need of...
