Lack of Angus Bulls, or quality Angus Bulls

We try to get all the cows AI'ed by a certian date then we turn the bull in. This is more for our convience and reduces the time conflicts with the haying enterprise.

    NE weather

Hear in southern maine we are below normal for snowfall. We have a nasty storm brewing that may or may not dump 6" to 24" inches of snow before it is done. It has been a relatively mild winter so far. the midwest has had more nasty weather than we have.

    Premises ID

The state ag types look blank when you mention premise ID here in Maine. I have seen no state plan to implement premise ID's or serious discussion for that matter

    Hoop Buildings

We have 1 up and 1 more to next spring. If you decide to go with the hoop barn make sure you get trusted rafters period. We put a single pipe barn up in 96 and lost it to snow load in 98. We replaced it in 99 with a trust pipe one and it is still going strong. Dad ripped the canvas 3 years...

    EPD Questions

Thank you for the explaination. TPR is similiar to the red angus whole herd reporting but with a cheaper fee structure. I like the idea of whole herd reporting but not as implemented by the AHA. I agree with you that a 2 season calving choice does not fit everyones needs.

    EPD Questions

What is TPR? Is that like the red angus that have total herd reporting?

    EPD Questions

EPD's are just another selection tool to be used in selecting animals. If you are using AI, EPD's allow you compare bulls of the same breed. When selecting AI sires I always look at the breeder, parents of the bull and there EPD's and all other data I can get my hands on. On average EPD's...

We have 2 permanent mirafount waterer's installed in each barn for winter use. I use a portable tub and move it with...

    Coyote.. myth or fact?

I have only lost 1 sick calf to coyotes as far as I know. We had another attack 10 years ago but survived it. I will shoot them anytime I find them in the pastures. The angus cows play coyote ball with them if they come around their calfs or can be caught in the pasture.
