    The decision to pull calf.

When I say assist I mean bending over for a few seconds and giving a little pressure. If I gotta get on the ground and actually pull with no chains then that an easy pull. I only had to use chains once and that was when yearling heifer I bought calved at 16 months old. That was a hard pull.

    The decision to pull calf.

Now what do you guys mean when you say pull? I usually give an hour and give a little tug if shes laying down to get the ball rolling to get the calf out. I wouldnt really consider that "pulling the calf" like it was a difficult birth. I consider it pulling a calf when I gotta get chains. So...

    Cow with mucous discharge

I'm not mr 38,000 LOL but I have seen my cows have it in mid gestation and it was nothing. I would be more worried about the thin cow that was bred by god knows what than a nice bonus calf. Might be a disaster. Good luck either way.

    Embryos?

Shorty that the first I have ever heard of doing a milk test on a recip. A big calf is a big calf regardless of milk quality or size udder. Even if the cows have the same quality milk they may not produce the same amount so that test would get you nothing. I just use my own cows that...

    Embryos?

Well grade 1 and 2 are fine. Seems cheap for embryos if they are any good. An average embryo will run around 300 and skies the limit. Dont know about sims so I cant help you there. Figure you will spend 100 bucks per transfer with 50% conception roughly and need the recips.

Embryos collected using sexed semen ?

I was thinking the same same thing JD about the one more embryo sticking. I actually just got the multimin and vitamin AD&E to give them 4 weeks prior. They dont list anyone remotely close to me so I may have to stick with the two shots.

Embryos collected using sexed semen ?

I actually dug up an old post about Multimin. A few guys swear by it including Knersie. I didn't realize that the vitaferm was a loose mineral.

    1st calf heifer questions

I got a 2x2 steel plate with a ten dollar walmart digital scale. Used it for years and never had a problem. I have reg stock so I wanna know exactly not the old looks like 80 but really 95. I have used tapes for steers and they are pretty close once you get used to them as far as condition...

    Run of heifer calfs

6 bulls 2 heifers and 7 more to go. 4 are AI so hopefully they are heifers. Got some big goggles at least on the last bull calved about an hour ago. Pigment sells a man from the third world once said.

How old is too old for a recip?

You yourself said if the sire isnt a heifer sire than only use them on cows. If i was at it for a long time which I'm not and had a consistent group of cows maybe my thoughts would be different but as of right now I would not use a heifer as a recip. Its not that my heifers are incapable its...

How old is too old for a recip?

The younger cows I will use will be 2nd calvers but they will be 3.5-4 years old. I would consider those cows in my opinion. I would not even be considering heifers. I dont think I would even use heifers if they were homegrown embryos and not purchased. Thanks guys.

    Flushing a cow.

What do you mean when you say " kept her over"? I hope that didnt mean she raised a calf and then she wasnt bred the following year. I think that will cause huge problems if she doesnt calve on a yearly basis especially if she has a problem milking. I would clarify her calving record so...

How old is too old for a recip?

I'm not exactly following. I see his epds got better this year at least based on genex website. I doubt the difficulty was the revolution semen. With that many problems I would think maybe the feed or hay had a little too much protein this year. The Bw question was more for which Bw to use...

How old is too old for a recip?

Thanks guys. Any thoughts on the bw calving ease question? Do I use the average, the worst epd to be safe, or the sire?

How old is too old for a recip?

The cows I would use generally take the first time AI so I would say they are ok fertility wise. That is what I would base my fertility off of. I have a few three year olds that calved for the first time last month. Just worked out that when I bought them at a sale that they would have been...
