    Herd brand GT-77 ATV Seeder

Got 3pt one from Herd, it been a good one though not in best shape when I bought it used. Herd company is a good company and great to work with. Bought some decals for my old 3pt one and they were great to deal with and reasonable priced as well for the decals.

    Price for Baling Hay

Last year got 25 a roll for a 6X5 roll. Never weight any but some said they thought it weigh around 1500. Heard it going from 22.50 to 30 a roll in my area (northeast Texas)

Slinging Ryegrass and Crimson Seed Today!

Skyline that sounds great on getting 2 inches of rain. Only got about 2/10 here, sure could use some more. Your clover and ryegrass should be off to a good start

    Hay season finally done

Unless I get some custom jobs I am done as well, going to have allot left over for next year. No major problems this year, so that a good thing. Got all hauled home too, now to do other things around place that needs to be done. Sure nice to be done this early.

    Army worms

Jo never thought about it before, but where mine have started this time is a area that has about 15 to 20 native pecan trees. Talked to a friend who farms row crops and he said he was seeing them in corn ground too. One other thing we have noticed this year is allot more mice and rats as in the...

    Army worms

Texas Gal you beat me on this, I was just going to start a thread on army worms when I saw yours. I got them as well. Looks like only 5 acres affected so far, but they are on the move. I count a few square feet and had like 4 to 6 per square foot. It sure made the grass brown, looked like...

    Epic haying experience?

Hope you can get it rolled up before it rains again. Have a had a couple fields like that before. Look at the bright side you will not have to chase it down or send allot of time raking  Good luck and let us know what it made

    My new pasture

You could also easily divide the 2 pasture into 4 lots with a electric fence.Just go from the gate post to the far corner of the lot, then when ready to move to another lot just move electric fence to the other gate post in the same lot. Pasture rotation has helped my pastures. Good luck

    Dallis grass

Some around here do not like dallis grass but I love it. It seems to put out more grass when things get dry. It is hard to cut for hay, but other than that I like it. Like Proverbs said I would add clover to it or maybe clover/ryegrass mix with it.

    Curing times

Usually cut then rake/bale 2 days later. Depends on weather though, but that is the average. Sometims will cut one day rake next then bale on 3rd day.

Safe winter grass for cow grazing..N.Texas

Little east of you, I run ryegrass and clover mix in my pasture. Has worked great. Never had a problem. Apache and Durana clover is what I am have now. Some people plant wheat or oats for grazing, but for me ryegrass and clover work better. Good luck

    cows or hay

With a full time job will you be able to bale when you need/have too? You can plan it out perfect to cut one day then say bale on weekend when your customers may be coming and as soon as you get done cutting the weather man has made a 180 degree turn and you have to bale maybe a day earlier that...

    Winter Grazing question's

I am a long way from you so not sure how it would work where you are, but what I done in pass is run a disc with no cut set on the disc over the pasture. What it does is scratch the ground and make it a litle easier for the seed to have ground contact, without really plowing up the pasture. Then...

    hay burned

It is almost impossible to put out a round bale of hay once it gets on fire. It seems most of time when hay is set on fire is when hay is in short supply and when it hurts the most to loose it. Make sure sheriff knows about it, they will probably not catch who set it if it was set, but maybe...

    Custom Baling Prices

I guess I look at it like this, if they were paying me to just bale what would I charge them, then figure what you would make on 10 bales doing it for money then what can I sell 3 bales for. If selling the 3 bales would be equal or more that what you would make baling for money then it would be...

    Runaway bales

Steve, you got to get a video of one doing the Curly Shuffle. :lol2:

Planting Clover & Rye grass together

Planted the same combo as you are talking about and it worked great. I just slung them out in a 3pt seeder, with a cattle panel draging behind. Had a good stand of both. The first year the clover was not that aggressive, the next year it really came on. Just wish I had done more, hopefully will...

Big round bales or big square bales?

Use round bales here, I think the big thing with big squares is it is easier to transport on big trucks. If I was selling allot of hay not locally, I would think about big squares, but not till then.

    183 round bales from 60ac

BigBull that sounds really good, up in my neck of woods most people are making 1 to 2 bales an acre ( that been on first cutting, not done any second cuts yet). Look at 60 acres last weekend that someone wanted me to cut, would not made 30 bales, needless to say I turned it down. This year we...

    Apache Clover VS Durana clover

Proverbs, may PH runs between 5.9 to 6.3 What I have noticed is Apache grows taller and has wider leaves, where the Durana has smaller leaves and grows closer to the ground but seems to to be thicker. Durana also seems to stay green longer this year. Also Durana seemed to come back better this...
