    Feeding Hay ???

    I started last Saturday with large sq bales in a ring feeder. My bunch must have been hungry as i had to drop another Monday, Thursday and Sunday(yesterday). I bought more hay than years past but i have more lbs in the field than b4. At this rate ill be buying more in a few months :devil2: Bill

    Pasture Fence Height

    Mine is 48 high and 5 hi tensile wires, dont remember the individual heights and it has worked fine. Its right on a road. Did half a newborn calf walk through at 4 wires and found him sleeping in the woods.

    Now im worried about the alfalfa i got that was put up a little damp and its dusty. i got 70 some small squares for little over 100. I figure on mixing with some good grass hay. I did give em a bale to try, they ate it up with good grass growing in the field....still standin

    Yeah I do realize I'm not his market i think the minimum acreage include in that price is a good amount. Talked to my neighbor that we got a field of hay from and he says they are just getting pickier too,, their busy. Looks like ill need to look at those 25 gallon tanks with booms on wheels...

    Called a local sprayer to see about spraying for weeds. Only about 6 acres you can get a sprayer on. they said cimmiron and crossbow. then the fellah said Minimum $500. :stop: :drink: Is he crazy, i can buy,build a rig for that. Bill

    Pasture rotation is working

    JHH, Same here, every 7 days, we've had good rain too. I only have about 9 acres pasture that is cut into 5 paddocks, and with 2 pairs and a BIG bull it looks great. By the time they rotate back in i have white clover just like in your first picture plus the red clover i frost seeded is coming...

    Now only if i could keep the cows off long enough for it to grow!? Its actually everywhere all over the place here, and I broadcast 25 lbs to boot.

    Im a no budget operation, presently putting a hay field in pasture and soon that will be open. I just used a broadcast seeder and weave had a lot of rain lately and its coming up, these are existing pastures ive closed till spring. Thanks for the input.

    I bought some annual rye grass seed for a couple acre pasture. Is it to late to broadcast this,(Oct 4th) we've had a lot of rain and raining now. I'm just a couple miles south from the Pennsylvania line in Maryland. I had read in a farm newspaper to hold off on perennial rye?? Bill

    Well I wanted to let yall know whats goin on. and first thanks for your observations and assistance. I ended up E-mailing my local extension office. Theire suggestion was to mow and spot spray any new foilage with Roundup or equiv. Took about 5 hours to get rid of brush and mow. Now I can open...

    OK, southern states suggested cutting down, letting it leaf out then hit it with Cimeron? minimum 10 acre=$170 for man and machine and 13.00 bucks an ounce for the cimeron. Might be five acres there. he said 1 1/4 ounce cimeron per acre. sounds like fun

    Thanks Vett, I just got off the phone with southern states, the fellah over there has concern about getting spray equipment over the field and suggested mulching first???? Ill have to go see the farmer next door and see if he will spray it. As long as i can figure this out SOON!
