    Sold long weaned heifers

I’ve never had luck in Elk. I always take a beating there, and didn’t do well the one time I tried the new Clinton barn. Been burned too many times to ever go back. I’ve done ok in Woodward, but it’s so darn far. I’ve got about 15 I need to sell soon.

    Sold long weaned heifers

Where did you get that price around here? I've got about 15 I need to sell. Heifers and steers.

    Keep or sell

You are in my area. We'll see if the weather actually happens this year. Not sure if I can handle much more. My place flooded twice in a month this spring. I think I will go ahead and pull my oldest calves and wean them and sell. I'm probably going to hold them until mid January or early February.

    Keep or sell

That's what I have been leaning towards. I'm not sure it is worth me holding on to them for another 5 months. Not sure if the cost of feed in the winter would be covered by the weight gain.

    Keep or sell

No, they are not weaned yet.

    Keep or sell

I've got about 30 calves to sell this cycle. Looking for advice. I know cattle prices are down and I'm not sure whether to hold on to them until the spring, meaning feeding them all winter, or just bite the bullet and sell them. The steers are in the 400-450 range. The heifers are probably in...

    To the sale barn

I was happy. I've found my sale barn, that's for sure. Much better then the one that is closer to me. It's worth the extra drive.

    To the sale barn

Mine turned out OK. My calves were a little light, but I knew that going in. I didn't want to feed the little boogers all winter. Not enough hay around here, and if it doesn't quit raining soon, I'm not going to get what I have left to cut out of the field. Steers/bull calves averaged about 440...

    To the sale barn

The market samples from the sale didn't look bad. I should know what I made tomorrow. Crossing my fingers it was good. I've got plans to turn it all back into the operation; seed, feed, diesel, fertilizer, etc. I only have one cow over 5 yrs old left in the herd. Next year, I should have around...

    To the sale barn

Loaded up 22 calves and 2 old cows and took them to the sale barn yesterday. The calves could have used a few more months of feed, but I don't want to feed them this winter. Hay is in short supply around here. Hopefully they do well.

    Sale Barn Prices

Just dropped off 7 steers and 8 heifer calves. The steers averaged 443 lbs and sold for $1.92 average. Heifers weighed 513 and averaged $1.48.

    Not happy

They were all either Angus/Hereford or straight Angus calves.

    Not happy

I did MUCH better at the sale this time. I'm feeling relieved.

That probably wasn't the best picture to use. That was a bottle calf, and it was only about 3-4 months old in that picture.

I have an Angus bull that has been with my cows since last spring. I shouldn't have anything but black calves this next year. This bull replaced our old Hereford bull.

    Not happy

I think you are correct. It was probably a combination of things, but I'm pretty sure I'm not taking my next batch to that sale barn. I'll drive them 100 miles to El Reno. Much bigger auction with a lot more buyers.

    Not happy

I took my first Brahman/Angus cross calves to the sale barn Friday. I'm not happy. Prices were down a bit, but I had one 545 lb steer go for 90 cents. I had a 685 lb bull calf go for 93 cents. That's disgusting. The best I did was $1.15 for a 645 lb steer and $1.16 for a 600 lb steer. I expected...
