Setting your goal in the beef cattle industry.

Year round calving would be to stressful for me..I need afew months to "decompress" before doing it again.. My goal is to suppliment my "real" income, keep the ag-exemption on the place, and show my kiddo (and any other kids whose parents I know) where their food actually comes from.. Oh and...

cross, I know Ive heard similar sentiments..but regarding eartags..someone told me he wont buy anything not tagged, as he felt that ment they probably hadnt been vaccinated or wormed..or handled..*shrugs* I guess I can see his point..to an extent..cattle folk seem to have their own way of doin'...

Do bull calves take a big hit?

so, when you are selling in larger quantities, you are more apt to feel the "Sting" then if you sell just 20 or so at a time? This makes sense..the guys that are adamant you have steers are huge ranches..the guys who sell them still intact are smaller..no more then 15 or twenty a year they take...

Fencing Options for mutpiple types of livestock

The vmesh dun posted is the best fence, Ive found, for horses..but its dreadfully expensive..we used Red Brand no climb for all our pens, with a pipe toprail, welded pipe braces and pipe posts (pipe was cheap when we did all this)..the no climb has been gradually torn apart by the $%&#$...

Thanks for the experiences and opinions..most of my cows are quite suspiscious of strange people..the place is only 5 minutes down the highway and I'd go and check them everyday..Its a good deal to get them on a large area of ungrazed pasture..:)

Keeping Cattle at pasture..away from your place..

I am pretty sure afew folks on this board keep their cattle at a pasture that is not at their home..I know it's very common.. I have come across a situation where I can potentially do this...but I'm looking for what folks do to prevent problems or theft...outside of the obvious of locking the...
