I have purchased two bulls from Ken Coleman. I lost one to lighting after two calve crops. Both bulls adjusted well, to the short grass prarie east of Walsenburg Colorado. The first bull left some very functional easy doing females. My second bull breeds a lot of cows is extremly docile kids...

    Breeding for insect resistance?

Adding some longorn genetics very helpful in reducing parasites. Always fewer flys on longhorn x cattle also fewer problems with lice and tics.

Nice Hereford Bull (4 year old)

Thanks Ned. I understand what mnmtranching is saying. I remember old timers always warning about overly fat bulls. I have seen fat bulls turned out in pasture with other bulls. A lot of times the other bulls will fight and run the fat bull off. Before long the fat bull will start to lose...

    Pasture Ornaments vs Hamburger Hooves

We run mostly commercial Hereford cows, but have at times used some Angus bulls in the herd. We breed all of our first calf heifers to a Longhorn bull. Never a problem with calving, much easier on a first calf heifer. We retain most of the heifers adding them to our herd they make very good...

Does anyone wait past 15 months to breed heifers?

We normally breed heifers at 15 months to a longhorn bull. He does a good job of getting the heifers settled, and we have no calving problems. They are then moved into the main herd, and bred to a Hereford bull for their second calf.
