    Red Poll cross calves

I thought I would post the sire to these calves. Several of you have mentioned the consistency in the calves. That is one advantage to using a Red Poll bull on you commercial cows. The Red Poll genetics are not diluted down like other breeds so their offspring all look alike. A couple of other...

Breeding with a double muscle bull

A true doubled muscled bull (one that carries two copies of the myostatin gene) will only produce 100% double muscled off spring when crossed with a double muscled cow (one that carries two copies of the myostatin gene). If the cow does NOT have any copies of the mysotatin gene them the...

Suggestions on what kind of bull I should use?

Calving ease is one of their major traits. We breed all our heifers back to Red Poll bulls with no issues. They just lay down and spit out a calf.

Suggestions on what kind of bull I should use?

I would use a Red Poll bull.....you wouldn't have to worry about calving and you can count your money on the way to the bank from those cross bred calves.

    719T Bull

You saw two people that they were taking bids from and one ended up as the highest bidder. What you don't know is .....did he really buy the bull?......was he a plant to make things look good?.....did the bull even sell?........too many things happen that we don't know about.

    Weaning weight

Depends on the breed.....some do just fine with very little
  11. J

    Weaning weight

The bull is only half of it. If your cows don't give enough milk it doesn't matter what breed of bull you use.

    Double Muscled

So the question is: Why wouldn't a commercial cattlemen raising cattle for beef not want to breed his cows to a bull that carries two copies of the myostatin gene? Would this not produce an offspring that will have the optimal carcass hanging on the rail?

    Double Muscled

Is anyone familiar with double muscled cattle in other breeds besides Piedmontese or Belgian Blue?

Are the 1150-1200 pound cows reality or myth ?

You are correct marbiling has very little if any relevance on tenderness

Yes the genetics are the same. In fact this calf is a full brother to the bull pictured below. The other calf is sired by the grand sire to these two bulls
