    CIDR questions!

I just poke a wire through the top of the glove. Cant be real rough on it or it will break, but you can just rotate the glove to another spot if the hole is getting a little too big. It keeps me from bending over to get the applicator out of a bucket, so even if I go through 2 or 3 gloves, I...

    CIDR questions!

I tie off the hand end of an ob glove, fill about half full of water/chlorhexidine then hook it on the side of the chute. The blue applicator fits nicely in there while we bring in another cow, and i'm not using/wasting a bunch of chlorhexidine.

    Feed-protein content

That is simple enough for me to remember, young=high, old=low. Thank you! She is only 8 so doesn't quite understand her dads excitement, but he was tickled pink with the results and she was tickled that she got a plaque. :D

    Feed-protein content

Ya know I read that on here a few years ago, and I sure look at poop a whole lot more since. I have been working the last 4 nights so really haven't spent enough time at the farm since, but this week I will have to evaluate the poo situation.

    Feed-protein content

That was our thought also (and the 2nd reason we went ahead and had more of the original feed delivered), but we didn't know if there was a reason to have a higher protein feed. The only thing we would like to change about the calves would be a higher rate of gain, the steer gained 1.71#/day...

    Feed-protein content

I feel like I should add that these are pasture calves that we have, not clubby or special fancy calves. I can't remember how to post pictures but would be glad to email them to someone to post.

    Feed-protein content

Hey guys, I might be trying to keep things too basic, nutrition is not an easy topic for me. Long story short, when do you want to feed a higher protein feed vs a lower protein feed? Long story: Last year we fed a feed with approx. 13% protein to my daughters show steer (red angus) and a...

    synch question

we did a 10 day Co-Synch on 11 cows, inserted CIDRs on a wed, pulled the following Wednesday at 9 pm to breed about 1pm on Sunday. It started raining early Sunday morning and into the afternoon. Everybody's patch was rubbed somewhat except for 2 cows. we AI'd everyone but those 2 cows, with the...

    Bucket calves

Thanks for the information so far. We give our calves vision 7 20/20 and express 5 in April (when they are about 2 or 3 months old) then again 2 weeks before weaning and again at weaning. This is what our vets recommend. What do you guys recommend for preventing scours? We will feed adm...

    Bucket calves

I thought I had this on the breeding/calving issues board. Sorry, I don't know how to move it.

    Bucket calves

I read a few other threads on raising bucket calves, but had more questions than they answered. We have access to get free bucket calves (beef, from heifers that calves at the feedlot.) We wouldn't keep any (I hope) for breeding, all will be sold. The one bonus I see, is that since the...

CIDR sync issues cow in heat late

question, if CIDRs maybe aren't as reliable now, if I want to breed on a natural heat, but also want to sync the herd up. Could I insert CIDRs, follow the 7 day CO-Sync, but not AI until 21 days later when they return to heat? I realize they wont all return to heat on day 21, so will have some...

    Sim Angus Hair Coats ?

you guys all say you deworm twice a year. just curious, has anyone ran any fecals to see if the dewormers are working? especially those that are holding hair. using pour on, drench, injectables? name brand, off brand? I guess this is for my own curiosity and for those that are not on fescue...

    bloat and tornados

Everything is ok. The amount of people that have helped or offered to help is amazing. The last cow was located Tuesday night, 6 days after the tornado hit, about a mile away. She must have been carried and discarded by the tornado. So had a loss of 8 cows, 1 bull. We have 3 orphaned bull calves...
