I have been doing that exact thing for the last month. All the grass hay they want and feed them about 5-6 pounds each of alfalfa hay every day. Cost is about 100 dollars per ton for the alfalfa, so I figure it costs me about 50 cents a day per head for the alfalfa. A big round bale should...

    Pearl Millet

    Pearl Millet

Well that was easier that I thought it would be. I planted two acres of the above millet, I mowed half of it, I am pretty sure on the 4th of July, it grew back, I mowed some more the 1st part of August, just kind of cutting some pathways through the tall stuff and the shorter stuff. It all...

    Old hay piles

been told that those hay/urine/manure piles are huge breeding ground for flies. I have the same problem, wondering if this is an issue for anyone? I hope to be able to pile it up and generally clean up the area where I have fed all winter and spring.

    Jersey bull bottle calves-seeking advice

Thinking about getting a few. They will be castrated ASAP. I may or may not eat one later, but, a Big But, what is the market for a weaned jersey steer? Is it possible to make a modest profit by weaning them as rapidly as prudent and then selling them. I think I can buy them right, but, then...
