    Drowning?

Thats so true. All you can do is apply the lessons learned and anticipate them getting into some kind of trouble. The part that I'm mad about is that I almost have the pen finished. Oh well, At least it'll be there for the next time. Thanks for the reply's everyone.

    Drowning?

Yep, I fished her out this morning. I'm pretty sad (and mad)about it. The momma just stands there calling to the water hoping that baby will come out. She would have been our 2nd calf.

    Drowning?

Yes, the momma was standing on the edge of the pond eating it. The afterbirth was half in the water.

    Drowning?

Has anyone ever had a cow give birth near a pond? I'm begining to think that our cow gave birth near the edge of a pond and I think that the baby rolled in and drowned.

    I'm a big dummy!

In my teens I trained my horses for ranching and also for team roping. That's been almost 20yrs ago. I've been out with him in the pasture everyday and he knows who the boss is. I can get him moving with a little rope/rump tap but I guess it'll take a while to get him where I can take him. I...

    I'm a big dummy!

The man said that his boys rode him at the local roping practices to pen the steers. We had the vet come and give him the once over and he knew our horse and said that the previous owner had never ridden him. The farrier said the same thing as the vet. I asked the farrier if the old man had any...

    I'm a big dummy!

I bought a 8 year old horse without riding him. I'm now the owner of an 8 year old unridable horse  . I can put a saddle on him and get on his back but that is about it. He balks and won't do anything. My wife got on him and my dog ran up to them and he thew her and broke all of her ribs...

2 week old hereford losing hair on back

We have a 2 week old miniature hereford. At first I thought my horse nipped his back, but the spot is getting bigger. The hair is totally gone. Skin is very red. Momma cow licks the spot, so it looks all wet. The skin looks normal, no raised or flaky areas. Any idea what's going on here...

    Manure Piles

I've got a similar problem. Well it's not really a problem but a similar question. I have one horse and three cows, Do I or should I be picking it up and putting it in a pile? I have them in a four acre pasture. I pick it up on occasion to put in the compost pile but not too often.

    Miniature Hereford Born Yesterday

I read somewhere that you get about 70% of the meat on a mini that you would get off a full size cow. I dont know if it's true or not.
