Red Brockel looks like she has a perpetual smile with those markings
I have a red heifer with almost same face markings. We named her Mona Lisa.

One more heifer. Last year her dam had quite a hard calving as a heifer with limx bull calf. This year it's a limx heifer and unassisted, born at 285 days.
The last three are due in the ten days time.

Finally this girl popped today. 289 days, lim sired heifer.
Only one more cow is left to calve. She is on 286th day, so not much left hopefully. Spending time with the bulling first calver today.
Half sisters of the newborn. Sired by the same bull as our pure lim bull calf.

Officially finished with the current season. The last cow finally calved late this evening.
Cow is 9 years old limxbluexdairy. Has parthenaise sired heifer at 288 days, unassisted. The calf is a fair lump. She's gonna grow into a fancy one.

"Normal" beef gestation (here) is 283 days. Simmental are 285 days. What is your "normal"?

I count 285 as average, but just know that it's not a usual average for some breeds. Blonde, charolais, lims, piedmontese tend to carry for longer and it's normal for those breeds. Blonde bull calves often arrive around 300 days, heifers rarely before 290.
So counting one average for all cows to know when they should calve and then watching them individually if they are more or less close.
Gonna count our this year average to see what was going on this year, but I'm pretty sure we had abit longer gestations this year.

Pure lim at 7,5 months age. He will be a big boy. Will be weaned at the beggining of August as his dam is due to calve on the 22nd of December.
One of the fav heifers from this year. Blondex. Almost 5 months old, was real big at birth, but keeps growing now as well. Will be weaned in November.
4,5 months old piedmontese cross bull calf. Dam incalf to piedmontese again in hope for a heifer.
Our first and only maine anjou sired calf. The second by a different sire is due in January I think. Serious growth of this one as he is only abit over 3,5 months age.
One of the older heifers. Probably will wean in November as her dam will calve in February or March.
Our gestation average for this season was 286,8 days. Abit shorter than I was thinking.

Some of the calves. Weaning is getting close for some.
Our pure lim. 8,5months old, will be weaned by the mid of October as his dam is due on the 22nd of December with another pure calf.
75% sim. Hopefully she will change her behaviour as would love to keep her around for longer. For now she is too skittish for my liking.
1,5months old parthenaise sired heifer. Our youngest calf. She will be a really nice one in the future. The first pure parthenaise calf is due at the end of December.
Parthenaise sired bull calf.
Our first and only yet maine anjou sired calf. He is showing lots of potential. Born at the beggining of May.
Culard charolais calf out of simxlimx cow.
Culard charolais sired twins. Probably will keep both.
And lastly, 75% blonde bull calf out of heifer.
This year went 100% AI, so next season will be very interesting. Some new bulls, some new crosses and the first pure parthenaise calves. Next year going to have a group of salers calves. The first VRB sired heifers gonna have their first calves. Also there will be the first Speckle Park calves. One confirmed for sure, out of limxbluexcharx first calver, one has been AI'ed recently. Also have one due to sexed female Belgian blue in January.
The first calf of the new season is due on the 3rd of December.

Aaand it started again. Two days ago had the first calf hit the ground. Then one more yesterday.
The older calf. Charolais bull calf, 288days gestation. Second calf for the cow, calved no issues. Dam is laying behind, our one and only shorthornx.
The second calving wasn't that smooth thought. The cow did calve easily herself, but she prolapsed as well. Wasn't an easy prolapse to fix and cow needed some iv fluids as she had lost some blood and wasn't looking too good. Calf is doing great though. Walked around the whole time we were fixing prolapse. Cow did look abit better when we left her for the night, so hopefully she keeps it up. Young cow, only the third calf for her, no issues before and she did calve real fast this time as well. Charolais x bull calf, cow 62,5% charolais, 286 days gestation.
Both newborns are extremely similar in size, not small calves, probably around 110lbs.
Will make a new thread later for the new season, but wanted to do a quick update. Seven more due in December- on the 9th, 12th, two on 22nd, 24th, 25th and 30th.

Was already preparing the pen for the newborns with moms, so caught it freshly. Left her with a bag showing for around 40min and found her prolapsed with a calf already walking around. It took two hours with preparation to fix it. Cow wasn't looking well, eyes sunk in, ears and nose cold, so gave her iv and she improved slightly.

Feeling much better today thankfully. Spent way more time up, while yesterday she was laying down most of the time.
Finally got better shots of both pairs. Both calves are very similar in size. The white cow is sired by the char bull, which is homozygous for myostatin gene Q204X, so his daughter also has one copy. Have four daughters in total, this one being the oldest.

Number 3 today.
94% lim, bull calf, 287 days gestation, unassisted, cow is 9 years old and had a prolapse with her previous calf, plus early abortion at 1month after that. Gave her abit of rest for a couple months and she is back to production fully. No other issues before that.

Number 4 today and the first heifer. Out of limx heifer, sired by french lim bull. Unassisted, 286 days gestation, approx 77-80lbs.

A quick update on last year calves. Have left a couple bulls to fatten, so it's really nice to see them grow well.
