back in about 1988 the river near our house was flooding, we took the horses down (too wet for anything else) to the back pasture to move the cows up. The bulls favorite cow wouldn't leave so he wouldn't leave and the lead cow wouldn't leave him so no one was going anywhere. We finally found...
That's nice to know. I knew that differeent grasses had different nutritional values, but not the same grass in different locations. Thats interesting.
Well the time of year won't be our decision. I guess if its not warm yet up there we will just get a couple of heifers when we get there. If not I would like to take mine. My rancher friend is hoping I will sell to him instead of taking them.
I've never heard the difference in grass...
We are thinking about it. My main concern is the amount of grass that will be available compared to what we have now. I have only been to Roswell once and can't remember how much grass is there. I don't want to feed a ton of hay. We used to live near El Paso and I don't see how the cows...
I read that, but they are large and want to get something smaller. And mine are used to the heat and being at sea level. I would like to get something that is already adapted to the cooler/drier climate and higher elevation. I guess I'll just have to watch and see whats available when we get...
I don't need pure breds, I just want something small. I have a daughter wih stomach problems and her dr. wants us to limit her possible exposure to unnecessary antibiotics and steroids until they can figure out what the problem is. Right now her diet is very limited and I don't want to cut...
That's really all I want. A few cows to raise my own beef.
Thanks for the sites. I'll check them out. Are the mini herfords good eating? What about the Dexters? Will a standard barbedwire fence hold them? Or will I need the field fencing?
So you can watch where you are going and see behind you at the same time? I'm impressed. I haven't been to the cattle pages in a while, but he has lots of this useless rabble on there.
It's also possible that the cattle being shown are being picked because of the high BW and no one is mis-reporting. They are just choosing to show the larger animal.
Well that makes sense. We always fed our show calves grain, but they lived in the pasture and came up when we called. I've never noticed much of a difference in body condition when the heiffers were just put to pasture. The steers, well we never brought them back home.
It's much hotter here...
When I bought my colt, he had one spot on his face that my vet said was ringworms. He said for a small area like that, I could use my fingers and put strait bleach on the spot(s). He said it will irritate the skin, but kill the fungus.
I was told 2 years ago by my vet not to use motor oil when my dog had mange because of all the additives that are in in now. It will burn the skin. They will get chemical burns. I bought Revolution for fleas and ticks and it killed the mange mites too. Wonderfull stuff. Wish they made it...
ringworm is a fungus. My vet said its called a worm just to confuse us.
I have tried every antifungal I could think of and my mare still has that fungus. The guy at the feed store said go to a garden store and get some captain powder. It is helping, but..... its still here!! Its...
