    Guess how old...

Don't know what that tag means but even though an "I" isn't supposed to be used in the alpha designation for year born, some do. I know I did before I knew better. I would say she is an 8 year old. The hanging under her belly is where the cord was attached. Just like some of us have "innies"...

I posted a few pix of some yearling heifers and someone called them pot-bellied also. I told them that the cattlemen I knew called it "volume" also. That was what I always heard too. As long as she is long and deep, I'll take "pot-bellied".

    Cow Kills Man

Agriculture didn't get the number 1 accident rating for nothing. A few years ago, my daughter and I planned to give a 5 day old bull calf a shot one evening. The calf had been born blind in one eye and was pretty spooky. I had to throw a rope on him and got him down. My daughter gave the...

    Ranching in the Dominican Republic

Doesn't look like they do much to fight the parasites there. Has to be a tough job in the tropics but believe it could be done.

OK. I'm going to post a picture of a 3/4 Tarentaise 1/4 ChiAngus who will be 10 years old in April. She weighs around 1200# and has calved every year since she was 2. What is wrong and what is good. I'm no expert for sure and I don't show cattle. Her bag is lopsided because her calf just...

Angus, a superior product or superior marketing?

I don't know enough about it to say that they can tell % of breed in an animal but they can for sure determine what breeds are in the animal and it doesn't cost all that much. It will come down in price also as more and more start to do it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they will be able...

Angus, a superior product or superior marketing?

I was under the impression that when it started, the cattle had to be 51% and above Angus. Don't know that but just have that impression in my mind. I think it won't be long before all registrations of all breeds will be DNA verified. Lowlines already do that. That will be a good thing for...

Angus, a superior product or superior marketing?

My biggest concern/complaint is the introduction of Angus into all the other breeds to get a 15/16 pure black whatever. I fell prey to that practice one time and now have a few black Tarentaise but I won't buy any more. I will keep black heifers if they are born on my place. I figure that if...

Angus, a superior product or superior marketing?

You are wrong on who paid for the test. I know the fellow that supplied the Tarentaise. Angus paid him for the cattle and for the test to be conducted. He was given a copy of the results by the school on the condition that he never publish it but he showed it the ATA members in Denver that...
