Found a place, now how to afford it.

If you can find a way to finance go for it. Don't be afraid of losing it. I know the heartache losing. But I'm only sorry for the deals I never made.

    grossest thing..

I woke this morning at 4:30, and as usual I laid there for a while trying to solve world and local problems. ;-) And what do you know, I solved our biggest local problem right off. You see our local Chinese resturaunt [very popular] was closed down the other day because the inspector found...

MORE Things You Don't Hear Anymore

Yes I've had to cut the the switch! Those welts on my rear end hurt for a while. Made me not do the same dumb thing again. You know, if my kids corected their kids the way I was corrected they would probably be in jail.

    Moldy Hay Hazard ?

I have seen eat moldy hay and moldy silage rather than the good stuff. I never worried about it, until last fall when I started feeding hay. We had a bale that the roof leaked on and it was half good, half bad. I told my son to just set it on the ground and let the cows eat what they wanted of...

    new here...please forgive my ignorance...

If it was me, and I had time , land, and money as you seem to have, I would start with one breed, maybe even reg. cattle and build me a herd of good mama cows. I wouldn't worry about this cross or that cross until I needed to make money from them. Maybe not even then. jmo

    BULL PRICE

I have seen several sales on rfd this spring. Seems like a lot bulls bring less than the floor they set, usually $1500. To me, these bulls have good numbers, good pedigrees and appear to have no major flaws. But that is what I see in the 30 secs. they are on the screen. I think good bulls can...

    Totally useless terms

My favorite back when I was buying and selling bred dairy heifers, "she will have a heifer calf, her mother did".

Vaccination and worming heavy bred cows

We also use the MLV, but usually do it 2 or 3 weeks before we turn the bulls out. I read the other day that they are recommending that you vac. the calves at the same time, even though they are only 6 to 8 weeks old. And then booster them at weaning. Anyone else read that.

    somethings are better left undone...

Oh the life of a bus driver! You sound like my brother, who also drives a SB. He carries a cell phone so his mistakes are not reported on the radio. The other drivers find out anyways!  A SB driver can't make a tiny mistake without the whole world knowing. I guess thats a good thing.
