    Cold weather tips

Well we got down to a -56°f with the windchill at that temperature everything becomes a pain in the you know what! 10 days straight with a temp below -13°f wind chill -30°f or lower. Even then I prefer leather boots with wool socks to my fancy "winter boots"

    Not a great week

You called it Aaron I talked to my vet and she said the bloating definitely pushed the calf out. Makes me feel a little better that she didn't die because of calving issues. It was a bull and a heifer Jeanne but only the bull survived. Had another set of twins again bull and heifer, 3rd set so...

    Not a great week

All started about a 10 days ago had a cow that looked sick and didnt eat. I put her in a pen with a bale, i didnt see her eat but she looked full so i thought she was ok, a week later she had sunken eyes so I called the vet she said might be acidosis. Made sense because i had been feeding some...

    What is this, cancer??

Yeah I've been thinking of selling her anyway she's a bit to wild for my taste. But I hope she can still raise this calf. But if it looks like it's getting worst fast I might have to take the calf and sell it. Or use it as a spare

    What is this, cancer??

Not sure about her age she's gonna have her 5th calf at my place but I bought her as a mature cow. I'm guessing 10 years plus. Should I give her antìbiotics?

    What is this, cancer??

I saw this a couple of days ago. It's on the lower part of the leg it was about golf ball size when I first saw it, looks bigger now. Reason I wonder if it's cancer, is I had a bred heifer with a lump on its ribcage that looked similar, although it still had hair on it. Took her to the vet and...

    Aborting or early calving?

I always take one off after a couple of weeks or when I need a graft. I used to leave both on the cow but it seemed like then the cow would breed back late or be open. Not sure why though.

    Aborting or early calving?

I would have preferred 2 heifers since I like the cow but I'll take a spare calf any day. When I pull a calf I have a bucket close by and collect the amniotic fluid in case I pull a dead one. Just pour it on a different calf. It's funny to watch a cow chasing a 2 week old calf thinking it's her...

    Aborting or early calving?

I got lucky saw her walking over a hill in the distance 30 seconds later she was out of sight. If I hadn't spotted her I'm sure I would have lost both calves. Had them sleeping inside my house, first time for everything :lol2:!

    Aborting or early calving?

I found a cow about a mile away from the rest of the heard, that where eating the hay I gave them a couple of hours earlier. Was in the middle of a field with nothing but snow. When I got close I saw some mucus with some blood in it on her. My cows should start calving march 21st so it would be...

    Baby Calves and Buzzards

Don't have a buzzard problem here but I know a joke. A guy has a parrot that trys to hump anything that moves. He catches the parrot on his chickens and tells the parrot if you keep doing that it's gonna kill you! Next day the parrot is on top of a pigeon again the owner tells him if you keep...
